Thread: Dumbville!

    Exclamation Dumbville!

    GSN Oodles Team,

It's been quite some time since I've seen any discussion on Dumbville. Countless GSN loyalists would like a true status update.

It's been a number of months since the application was updated. We need a real answer as to when the gaming staff will implement a level update?

We're losing way too many players on GSN and Dumbville alike. It's Painfully Obvious a morale booster is very much needed among community -- Updating Dumbville would be a great start.

    Cheers.

I joined Dumbville late... just a few months ago. I tried the levels and just got up to 5...I find it too frustrating and time consuming for the oodles earned. However, I do Garbage Grab every single day and just last night won 905 oodles! This is after last week winning 876! I was very happy after a pretty long dry spell.

I certainly understand your frustration -- Several of the levels on Dumbville are no easy task. The oodle reward was incredible during DV's debut, and for quite some time. In fact, apparently too great in the beginning by GSN standards -- The gaming/development team implemented limits as a result. They grossly underestimated the super oodlers who took the same motivation on GSN to Dumbville. While many viewed the changes as unfair, the oodles reward continued to be decent until they failed at updating the application altogether. What was GSN expecting? That people wouldn't work tirelessly to secure massive amounts of oodles? The essence of gaming for reward is determination and skill. Don't hate the Playa's, hate the game! D-Ville was a ton of fun.

Garbage grab is great in a sickly; filthy sort of way! It doesn't nearly reach the potential of the actual game levels however. DV’s benefit went far beyond members simply earning oodles in volume. The sheer marketing and advertising power made GSN more popular than ever. The equation is rather simple: Recruiting more members translates into revenue = profitability. I'm no media scholar, but I'd like to think that GSN (having struggled many times since its inception); would utilize strategies to increase profits and improve its relationship with investors. I’m confident Dumbville was a gold mine for GSN.

The "oodle" however, has unnecessarily diminished to the likes of a 3rd World currency. Ugh.

After that 905 (actually it was 908) the next day I got 976! I was excited until I thought about it... "Oh, yeah! More oodles to spend on..... nothing!" lol

Yeah, I can see the potential it fulfilled especially with people having all their friends lose levels and earning oodles on hundreds of friends' losses. Great idea! It started on April Fool's Day last year, didn't it? I wish I'd have at least been doing Garbage Grab all this time, but I didn't join Facebook until recently and I only use it for stuff like this...

After reading the comments here, I'm almost afraid to ask the question but where is this Dumbville and Garbage Grab that you're talking about? If it's something that will get me addicted, maybe I'd better stay away. lol I did manage to finally pull myself away from the Pyramid Solitaire that I like so much. I have problems with my arms and hands and that aggravates them and I finally asked myself, "Why am I torturing myself like this?" I literally had to hold my right arm with my left because it was causing me a lot of pain to click the mouse, and I thought it was ridiculous (but I LOVE that game!). I just can't go back to it. Never got on the leaderboard no matter how hard I tried and how many hours I played. Oh, I'd get on it, but you can believe by the end of the day I was no longer on it, and I got disgusted with it. When you think about it, even if you get on the board and get oodles for it, what's worth it to spend them on? I just asked someone about another gaming site because if things don't get better here soon, I'm leaving. It's just not worth it wasting my time here. If enough people leave and the site goes under, well, it's not like they weren't warned. People just are NOT happy with the "prizes" here.

On a side note, after being here for almost a year (I think), I still have not figured out how to do the quizzes thing.

Are you talking about the Quick Quizzes for Wonder Wheel spins? Or the trivia questions? We can help you out....

The Dumbville thing was started on April Fool's Day 2010. It's on Facebook. I only use Facebook for stuff like this... not to talk to friends or anything. It's a game where there are levels and just for signing up you get around 1,000 oodles right off the bat. There are something like 35 levels or so to complete and each one is worth 250 oodles (I think) but each time you fail, the amount it's worth diminishes. It's just stupid stuff but the problem is that it's really fast. So that's why you fail often. The craze at first was that if you were connected with all of your friends, each time one of them would fail a level, all of their friends would receive 5 oodles; it would add up quickly with a lot of people. I got into it late and just completed 5 levels and don't do that anymore...... BUT.... every day, if you log in (it's midnight eastern) and go to the app (where it says "go to app") there is a thing called Daily Garbage Grab. This is as easy as it gets: There are three trash cans. You click on each one and an amount of oodles shows up. You are asked after each one whether you want to keep it or risk it. I always click on all three (unless it's a huge amount that comes up). You can win anywhere from 2 to 1,000 oodles. Last week, like I said in my post above, I won over 2,000 oodles. There will be long dry spells but you always get something for about 90 seconds of your time. Check it out: facebook.com/dumbville Pretty sure that's the link.

I'm spoiled here because I always get on the top 10 of the game I love (Mahjongg Alchemy) so it's hard for me to stop oodling. It took a lot of practice and patience to get to this point and I still need to play dozens of games some days because of the luck factor involved (being "dealt" a game that has the potential for a high score to be reached). But sometimes, I get lucky and I only play 2 or 3 games to reach (and stay at) the top 5.

But clarify about the quizzes thing you mentioned and I'll try to help you....

squishmar, Thank you for going to the trouble to explain all of that for me. I think I'll look at that Garbage Grab on facebook but from the description of that other thing, I think I'll pass on that. I already have trouble with fast things. About the quizzes...I haven't looked at that lately since I could never figure out how to do it, but anyway, it's the quizzers to get another spin for the day. I get one with straws and one for signing in, and it would be nice if I could get a third spin. Without looking, I forget what all is involved and how many things a person has to answer, etc. I just know that I tried it and didn't get a spin. There must be something I'm doing wrong or not completing the whole thing or something. I think maybe a facebook thing came up at some point and then I thought heck with it.

The Quick Quizzes is sooooo easy. After you log in each day, just go to the Games tab where all the games are listed, go to "Word Games" and click on Quick Quizzes. Then click "play for fun" (or whatever it says) and wait till it loads (after the ad).... you don't even have to do any of the quizzes.... just wait one minute and at the bottom of that window it will say click here to earn your Wonder Wheel spin (or something like that) then it changes to "Click here to collect your Wonder Wheel Spin.... I do that to make sure it registered. And that's it! You can also access it if you go to the Oodles tab and on the right hand side, under the Double Trouble, Deal or No Deal and Bingo Blitz logos, it says Wonder Wheel.. you can click on that and then above it says "Ways to earn spins" and you click on that and it has three daily options... the "Log-in for the day" one will already have a check mark over it, and the Straws and Quick Quizzes boxes will be available to click on from there. After you've done each, a check mark will appear over those boxes as well.

I just started using my Straws game to get that third spin for the day. I never used to do it. I'd settle for the two spins a day... simply because I am so bad at Straws that it frustrates me. But now, I just get the game going and go check my email and come back to advance to the next round until the game is finished... Hey, it doesn't say you need to get a good score to get the spin!

I hope you start doing the Quizzes to get that third spin... it is really easy. And if you want to, do a few of the quizzes... a few of them are interesting. The main thing is to click on that line that appears in the box after you have finished the quiz (or let the minute run out)... the one that says "Click Here to Collect Your Wonder Wheel Spin). That must be why you never got them to register before.

Hope this helps! And the Garbage Grab thing on Dumbville is as easy as it gets once you register for the Dumbville game. It's literally 90 seconds of your time (or less) for anywhere from 2-1,000 oodles a day!

I saw the extra oodles in my balance and had to go check out my Oodles account to see what was up... What a nice surprise! Thanks a bunch!

    Squishy,

Congrats on the neighborly oodles! That was quite an explanation that you gave for one of our GSN friends! It's rare that I find peeps online that offer such details. Some of us know how frustrating forums can be when responses are so vague and poorly explained! Certainly a deserved 250 Oodles for being a fine neighbor. Warning: This is Crime Watch Neighborhood hahaha

I'd like to add something here if I could regarding Wonder Wheel :P When it comes to the WW spins, it really has very little to do with whether one likes the games offered for the promotion -- It's all about securing that opportunity for some oodles hehe Straws has been around since the Wonder Wheel was implemented. The 2nd and sometimes even a 3rd game (very rare these days) have varied since then. I'm not much of a Straws fan these days, though I remember before the format was changed I frequently placed in the top 3 back in the day. The game can be a lot of work for some, and while it's loved by many, it's hated just the same. Quick Quizzes, well I'm no fan of that either; for many reasons. Good lawd, It seems like an eternity to claim the spin!

The secret is, one does not have to even play the games! You're absolutely right about QQ's -- Just wait for the clickable link. The real secret however, is that you don't have to complete/finish Straws either! Simply click start, and proceed to close the window shortly after doing so When it comes to various oodle promotions it has little to do with the game itself, rather it's the advertisements that matter. When we watch Ads, it generates revenue for GSN -- they could care less whether you play the game in it's entirety or not. The same process works for "Game of the Week" and so on. I frequently hear others among our community complain about the hours it takes them to play 10 to 35 games. It doesn't have to be that way at all. Rest assured, I've been receiving oodles this way for as long as I can remember

To think, you missed out on ALL those spins believing you had to complete a game you so loathed! Shucks. Now, if GSN would just add a 3rd option like they used to, you could make up for lost oodles!

yomamab, we're determined to help you reach your potoodletential. Often we human's assume things are more difficult than is reality. It takes patience and playing around some. A little of that, and in no time you'll grasp the the tricks and tips of GSN There are many things online that are surely confusing for the not-so-tech savvy. While facebook is used by millions, it's a science in and of itself. One has to be cautious of many things; among all the bells and whistles! Setting up a Facebook account and associating it with your GSN account can be fairly easy, yet many mess up during the process.

Currently several find completing the actual Dumbville levels on Facebook a waste of time due to the lack of updates. In other words, why add friends and such when most have completed the last level? On the other hand, your really missing out by not enjoying a frequent Garbage Grab! When you're all set up as Squishy mentioned above, It takes merely a few minutes to play. It's easy oodles!

    Cheers :P

Wbbbdawg: Thanks for that tip about Straws! I kind of wish GSN would get new Wonder Wheel games, too. Although I do love the horse racing one! And, I know I'd like to know when my spins are going to expire instead of finding out by logging in and having one less than when I logged out the day before!

I would really like to do an informal study on what abilities the games you excel at translate to in the real world. Obviously, with Straws, I would not be a good architect.... I guess that would be fluid geometry....although I'm good at spatial geometry because I rock at Mahjongg and I can load a dishwasher or a crowded freezer like nobody's business. I get the absolute full potential from the space allowed. Word games, I do well at (I love crossword puzzles) but I really suck at anagrams. It must have to do with the random order because I do fine at Spliterature where the letters are linear.... Sorry to ramble on, it's just something I've been curious about. Of course, a lot of the games require-- on top of anything else--- quick reflexes.

Anyhoo, thanks for your shout out and tip!

Amazing what you can learn just by reading what you gamers find interesting--thanks for the tips---and I'll be sure to pass them on if given a chance---but my question is is it me or is it my computer when it comes to the timing I can't click fast enough Just seems to take to long to click them and I run out of time--I've maybe made points twice out of 15 levels (duh)! Anyway great posts and look forward to reading all the rest of these interesting tid bits!
