And Lingo needs more new episodes because I don't always watch this show, but I feel I've seen all of the episodes whenever I scan through the channel guide. It can't cost that much to produce.
I'm all for new eps of Lingo, but the show is a victim of its own resistance to rerun abuse. Nobody except a verbal genius can possibly remember all (or even a significant portion) of the puzzles, so the show can be rerun and rerun and still get pretty decent numbers. In the latest published week, December 6-12, the show's long-established 3:00 PM hour averaged a very nice 331K viewers. The other runs didn't do as well, but the numbers weren't embarrassing. For all twenty-five (gasp) runs of the show Lingo averaged an acceptable 260K.

So the network probably figures new eps wouldn't perform much better than the reruns. Chain Reaction has the same problem. The show is very resistant to rerun abuse because nobody can remember all the verbal puzzles. That's why GSN just keeps pounding those same 130 eps. In the latest week the show averaged a quite pleasant 329K at 2:30 PM, and GSN probably figures new episodes wouldn't draw many more viewers.

Wow thanks for listing all of those schedules!

Now those are what I call the Classic Era! I just wish I could have had GSN before 1998 to watch all of these shows.

I remember that 1996 schedule very well...LOVED IT! That would be a nice blueprint if a Classics channel ever came to fruition.

Thank you for posting all of these!

Interesting. All these shows were about the same age (or newer) in 1994 as Regis Millionaire is today. Some of them were newer in 1994 than the early seasons of Karn Feud and Lingo are today.

Gives a little perspective. In 1994 GSN ran a lot of stuff that might not have been considered "classic" if Regis Millionaire isn't considered classic today. In 1994 would most game show fans have called Combs Feud a classic? Almost certainly not. After all, Combs was still doing the show when 1994 began. Hard to imagine that Match Game 90 would have gotten the coveted title, either. Deal or No Deal's first season is older now than MG90 was in December, 1994.

Just shows that anything can be called classic and the term morphs over time. Sooner or later even the hardest-core fans will probably give in and bestow the beloved title on Regis Millionaire. And now that I mentioned Lingo, it's nice that I was too pessimistic about new eps earlier in this thread. Sometimes it's nice to be wrong.

Let's get back to this thread!

Here's part of a weekday afternoon schedule in 2000:

    2pm Wheel of Fortune
    2:30pm Jeopardy
    3pm The $25,000 Pyramid
    3:30pm Password
    4pm Password Plus
    4:30pm Body Language

  10. #25
Those were all popular Classics. It's sad that they aren't airing on a regular basis any longer. Jeopardy is nice, but the rest of the shows on this afternoon lineup would keep me glued to the set!

I wish so badly that was our schedule now, even if that was noon-3pm; just not early in the mornings.
