    Sony Boards IS HACKED!!!!!

    Access this site:

    http://boards.sonypictures.com/boards

And you'll notice that there is a Database Error with the Sony Boards.

I registered to this site not too long ago, though I still have yet to post. But the bad news is, someone's bank account could be affected, if the password to their online banking site is the same as on the Sony Boards.

That said, I suggest you go to your online banking site and change your password to something completely different.

I already am ahead of the game - as early as 2005. My password on my bank's website is a lot different from the one I use on many different forums. So lucky for me, I am on safe ground for now.

Also, as a recommendation, I strongly suggest that you not use the same consistent password on the sites you go to.

It makes me wonder if this site will be affected soon - seeing that GSN is 40% owned by Sony?

We have good intrusion detection systems (you have to with cash games like WW) and passwords are encrypted, etc.

Of course, Jon, you have to realize that anyone whom is dense enough to make his or her bank password the same as a forum probably is deserving of that effect. Generally, passwords are best if you do the following:

-Do not use your username as the password.
-Don't use a dictionary word or any word common to speech.
-Use combinations of capital letters, small letters, numbers, and symbols.
    -Use at least 6-8 characters.
-Make it so it is easy to remember for yourself, but hard

Best passwords: "$T3v3Zz!" (Looks ridiculous, but computer programs made to put in millions of password guesses on a site as macros won't be likely to guess it. It's actually my name, but I haven't used this as a password, so don't get any ideas )
Worst password: "abc123" or "password" (the macros will guess those right away.)

And if your password is compromised, don't worry, just act soon. It only takes hours for any and all data to be harvested about you, especially if you use common passwords. Most websites will delete the account if you email them and won't give you trouble.

Besides, I'm actually sure that banks have security measures which would catch a dictionary attacker such as that early. I'm actually at PNC Bank, and they will lock the account after three misses and will make you go to a branch before you can do any more online banking. Same thing with my mutual fund, too. Chances are most banks are that way, so if you do the above, you should be safe.

and another piece of advice, probably the best I suppose: do not give anyone your password, that's pretty much asking for trouble right there.

Thanks Angel Yea, and I'll say this: The above post is very, VERY true. A lot of people will get messages saying "We're eliminating accounts to create more space. Please provide your username and password." In perfect honesty, most boards I've been on are secure enough that even the admins don't know your password (it's encrypted for security) - plus, I don't think they would need your permission to delete your account. I wouldn't sweat it on here, mostly because judging from the participation levels on here, that this is not the best place to hack (unless someone wanted to pull a Nick Perry and rig the Oodles :P ) But a little common sense helps a lot, especially online.

From 2010, here are 20 easy to guess passwords. The two you used as examples are in this list, as the 10th and 4th easiest to guess passwords respectively.
