GSN Schedule Ratings #2 (Starting June 6)

Since the schedule had so many changes starting June 6, I think it is appropriate to start a new ratings thread for this schedule. June 6th Ratings can be seen Here.

Here are the ratings for Engvall's Lingo on it's first day.
    8:00pm Lingo (Engvall) Series Premiere 0.4 524
    11:00pm Lingo (Engvall) 0.2 255
    2:00am Lingo (Engvall) 0.1 140

and here is the Top 10 for the day.
    1) 8:00PM Lingo (Engvall) Series Premiere 524
    2) 4:30PM Family Feud (Karn) 388
    3) 7:30PM Baggage 379
    4) 6:30PM Newlywed Game 375
    5) 10:30PM Family Feud (O' Hurley) 363
    6) 4:00PM Family Feud (Karn) 327
    7) 6:00PM Baggage 321
    8) 9:30PM Newlywed Game 315
    9) 2:30PM Chain Reaction 302
    10) 7:00PM Love Triangle 283

8:00PM Lingo (Engvall) Series Premiere 524
    8:30PM Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza 219

I know it's only Engvall's first showing, and that number is guaranteed to dwindle as the days and weeks go by, but, you really have to wonder what kind of deal Improv's production company got for it to stay on the schedule even though it almost completely bottoms-out.

EDIT: Oh, and Match Game at 11:30am got a better rating (245) than first-run Improv. But of course, this isn't the first time a classic has beaten this show...

So, if GSN were to put almost anything in the spot after Lingo, odds are they would get better numbers than Improv.

I know it was just the debut of Lingo but, GSN hasn't seen a 500K in awhile. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the days this week do.

    8:30PM Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza 219
Oh, and Match Game at 11:30am got a better rating (245) than first-run Improv.
Is Improv-a-Ganza in first-runs any more? They only made 40 eps, didn't they? Anyhoo, it's no big deal to beat the improv bunch. Eighteen shows did it Monday.

By the way, at 11:00PM Drew also wasted about half of Lingo's lead-in. If the Engvall lead-ins are Improv-a-Ganza's last chance - and I think they are - the last chance is not off to a good start.

Averages for the day were 315K/238K prime time/total day. Really not bad by GSN's recent (wretched) standards.

I know it was just the debut of Lingo but, GSN hasn't seen a 500K in awhile.
Caution: the last 500K+ number was...Drew's debut on April 11.

So, if GSN were to put almost anything in the spot after Lingo, odds are they would get better numbers than Improv.
Getting to be a bore about this...but maybe GSN might try remaking that other word game which keeps showing up the top ten, and pair it with Lingo. A couple word games together seems to make more sense than a word game followed by a completely non-game comedy show. Or what's supposed to be a comedy show.

Just imagine the ratings wave if they had put in another show after the Premiere of Lingo?

Unfortunately they lost over half the audience, so people are still being repelled by Improv, but the ratings this past week have been surprisingly high. I didn't think Drew's new show was able to pull 6 figure ratings!

The late showing of the new Lingo was a bit sad, and a Classic, such as Pyramid could have doubled that number easily.

Chain Reaction, or a new run of Whammy just might do the job.

Chain Reaction, as you often mention, is one of the highest rated shows on GSN. And Whammy always does well on the weekends, and is an established brand.

With Drew Carey's Improv show drawing in 110,000 viewers this past Monday, it makes me wonder how Card Sharks with Bob Eubanks did at 3 a.m.? I wished I knew.

If Card Sharks was doing badly since Monday, maybe that's an indicator that Drew's Improv show needs to go. Put Richard Karn in the 2:30 a.m. slot if they have to.

Aside from the Lingo premiere, from what it sounds, Bill Engvall's run is bombing. Chuck Woolery's episodes did way better, it seems.

Lingo definitely fell off at 8:00PM on the second day 6/7, though (oddly) the 11:00PM run actually improved. Weird day all around for GSN. Nothing did great but a lot of shows topped 300K. The top ten...

    6:30PM Newlywed Game 382
    7:30PM Baggage 360
    10:30PM Family Feud (O'Hurley) 341
    6:00PM Baggage 331
    2:00PM Catch 21 327
    4:00PM Family Feud (Karn) 315
    8:00PM Lingo (Engvall) 311
    8:30PM Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza 306
    11:00PM Lingo (Engvall) 305
    5:00PM Catch 21 302

Averages were 275K/243K prime time/total day. Wendy's embarrassing 9:00PM number (130K!) hurt the prime time average. But the total day average crept back towards repectability.

Just a strange day overall. Drew's 11:30PM run still hurt the late night lineup, though, which was maybe the most usual thing about the day.

Woolery Lingo did its best number in the noon hour since May 5. I thought GSN might want to drive Chuck's fans to the hour, and maybe the idea is working. The price was a weakening of the 3:00PM hour with a grinding third rerun of the previous day's Engvall Lingo. The five-a-day for Engvall's limited run is ridiculous. I'd put Chuck back at 3:00PM and keep Carrie Ann at 3:30PM. I'd also consider Chain Reaction at 5:30PM instead of Engvall. Catch 21 and Chain Reaction usually do decent business at 2:00PM, and they might do okay at 5:00PM.

Of course, I think GSN should do another season of Chain Reaction, anyway. But I'm getting to be a bore about that.

Engvall lost viewers in every airing it had on Tuesday. Not a good way to start off a new show. I think it's just simply rerunned way too many times. The smart thing to do would be air it twice in primetime at 8pm and 11pm, and start the 11pm run halfway through the episode series. So that people aren't seeing the same exact show.

Chuck has more than enough seasons to cover the other 2 or 3 episodes that they want to air. But I would even suggest reducing Chuck to twice a day, and airing something like Whammy or Chain Reaction on weekdays (one of their good weekend rating shows)

But of course they won't listen to us. Which is why Drew and Wendy continue to demolish the ratings. They seem to take turns in doing it. Rarely each gets a good day, but they are mostly rating losers.

Bill Engvall's Lingo is a step in the right direction for GSN in the sense that the network seems to be finally returning to producing GAME SHOWS. However, seeing Bill talk in the preview clips about how "...I think it takes LINGO out of the game show realm and makes it an everybody show realm" doesn't really bode well for a GAME SHOW that's supposed to be airing on a GAME SHOW NETWORK to an audience expecting to watch a GAME SHOW and not an "EVERYBODY/REALITY" show.

Seeing that Improv-A-Ganza is still not attracting an audience after a new episode of Lingo should be clear to Kelly Goode that Improv-A-Ganza should be removed from the schedule already. However, knowing how this works, I wouldn't be surprised to see Improv-A-Ganza's timeslots replaced by another airing of, you guessed it, Family Feud, despite the Feud currently airing 9 times a day. Anyways, we'll see what happens I guess...

Love Triangle might not last much longer than Improv, so we might see another big shuffle before too long.

Lingo bounced back with the big win on Wednesday 6/8. By far the best number of the day, followed by the Baggage first-run. The top ten...

    8:00PM Lingo (Engvall) 446
    7:30PM Baggage 364
    6:30PM Newlywed Game 359
    10:30PM Family Feud (O'Hurley) 347
    2:30PM Chain Reaction 341
    6:00PM Baggage 327
    2:00PM Catch 21 311
    8:30PM Improv-a-Ganza 310
    10:00PM Family Feud (Karn) 290
    7:00PM Love Triangle 287

Drew has improved at 8:30PM with the Lingo lead-in. At least one of the lead-ins might work for him. He'll have to continue that improvement to stand any chance of a renewal.

Look at that Chain Reaction number! In the middle of the afternoon after endless rerun abuse of 130 tattered episodes. Come on, guys, listen to your audience and make another season. It's a fine word game, and I don't care if I am a bore about it.

Averages were 317K/224K prime time/total day. A decent prime time number by GSN's recent standards but total day wasn't so hot.

    Douglas rules.

I wish the TV version of LINGO was like the online version. No clues and fast gameplay.
Maybe GSN can revive some of it's older originals that have been rerunned over and over again. I'm talking about Chain Reaction with an improved bonus round and a 3rd season of TTQ.

  15. #15
Yeah, but if Lingo is any indication, if GSN were to revive Chain Reaction, people would be complaining that there was a new host, a new set, and that the contestants were dumber... and that would be before the show premiered.
