When do they bring back those old game shows to GSN

I miss some of the old game shows that GSN used to air like Blockbusters, The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game, The Gong Show, 3's A Crowd, Treasure Hunt, Hot Potato, Bullseye, The Joker's Wild, Joker, Joker, Joker, Tic Tac Dough, GO, Chain Reaction, The Diamond Head Game, Triva Trap, Body Language, Beat the Clock, The Family Game, The Parent Game, The $1.98 Beauty Show, Password, Password Plus, Super Password, Match Game PM, To Tell the Truth, The Price is Right and all the other game shows that GSN used to air back in 1994 because I'm just a big fan of game shows when I use to watch them when I was a kid back then and I remember them all so let pray for these old game shows!

As much as I would like to see some of them return, they're not going to chance it. I'm tickled pink to see Card Sharks on GSN, but if that goes, so will my GSN watching.

The generation that grew up with such older shows are getting up there in age and some are perhaps nearing the end of their life cycles. Most of the shows GSN currently airs are modern 21st century shows, and they are doing the network good. But be grateful we still have Match Game, Dawson's Feud, Card Sharks, and $25,000 Pyramid (though I have a gut feeling $25,000 Pyramid will be gone in the coming months) on the schedule. I can assure you, they won't be on the air forever.

Here's the thing you have to consider when pondering the question:

Jon is, in part, right. But remember that the ratings not only take into consideration all viewers (the big numbers that Casey mentions a lot), but also a subset of 18-49. For many in that group (and if you can do math, you'll realize I'm still in the group), they can't relate to the old game shows like What's My Line (which hasn't been in first run since 1975), Tattletales or even Password.

Now, the only way I can see any of the old shows (pre-1995) coming back is for some TV network to actually take the time and expense to make new versions. Make them relevant to today.

This is not accurate. MG ratings alone are better than many of the prime time ratings over last few months. Poker was doing abysmal numbers. Look at Carey. Classics are not going to be placed in prime time, but they would do better than the garbage GSN is putting on now. Super Password would do fine at 12. WML? and IGAS would do well at 3 AM. CS at 2 would be an upgrade.
Classics are not expensive. GSN is so hellbent on staying the course since Oct 2008 that they are doing poorly at this time. Their obvious intent is to propagate their own abused reruns. Their attempt to attract an audience who like watching pseudo-reality and court shows isn't doing the numbers they hoped. Not even close. GSN has foresaken making game shows ( save Lingo) that actually involve GAMES.

Classics would help ratings. Demos don't matter when the ratings are this bad.

Think of Attenna TV or ME TV or RETRO TV which are digital subchannels catering to all classics.

TV Land on cable used to be 100% classics but now its new style sitcom plus less classics.

Billy, you clearly either did not read or understand what I wrote. Listen, I remember these shows, just like you do. I'd like to see more of them. But if GSN wants to make money, so that we can see them, they must be able to program to younger viewers. Typically, game shows do not demo very well. And now that many are 20-30 years old, the viewers that many advertisers want to target cannot relate (didn't I just say that in the last post) to Match Game, Card Sharks shows of the 1970s and '80s. What you are talking about are pure viewer numbers, which aren't hot anyway. They do not take into account 18-49 numbers that advertisers say that they crave and will spend for. Therefore, at this point, I'd rather see someone make new episodes of classic shows for the network.

I love game shows because I want to watch all of the old game shows that GSN used to air!

I love "Match Game" and I really miss late night's "What's My Line". GSN received so much negative feedback for dropping the classic game show. I saw comments and articles all over the internet, youtube, and various other message boards where people were furious about the disappearance of WML. It did nothing. GSN didn't care the least. I predict that within 5 years there will be no more GSN.

Yeah, I did. There is no point in bringing remakes of IGAS, WML? etc to GSN...why? Just look at how they destroy anything new the last few years. Sex has to be part of the GSN equation. The raunchy shows...Love Triangle and Baggage are the intent of GSN programming. Even the gSN show I adore, Lingo, has been debased with way too many sexual overtones like kids in Junior High school do. Lingo has been "dumb down" to allow people who probably can't even tell you how many states there are as contestants.
I know the world is different. People like pseudo reality, watching people tell their stories in Court with Judges who are usually inept. Rather watch shows telling them how to make Spaghetti and boil water instead of a game show that makes you use a bit of your Grey Matter. Or watch a Doctor show that gives advice to people that makes them think they know everything instead of going to their Primary....but the way GSN makes game shows at this point in time, I think High School kids would do better. I really do. Just seems like GSN keeps telling their audience this is what you like because this is what our crack researchers tell us you should like. Not what their viewers actually want to watch. The ratings support this.
Nobody really disputes GSN has to make new showws to make money. I even get they have to counter program a bit to attract viewers in lieu of getting them to watch game shows. But they have tried TAR, Carnage, Comedy and other things that have had limited success. Even Poker has pretty much run its course months ago. Instead,GSN doesn't get that this is a Game Show network. They are doing virtually everything to alienate game show fans, who are not like Soap fans...a dying genre. But I don't agree even a little that GSN should remake classics. Just put some of the originals on.
REMEMBER..in 2008, GSN put classics back on to help boost the ratings. It did. Problem is GSN just used the classic fans to get their footing back from a dismal 2007.

Obviously, you need to RALLY ROUND THE FLAG so that ponies can be given away on GSN.

Going back to the whole 18-49 demo thing with classics...there are many, many of us in that demographic who love classics. Many of them have a following among college students, and a huge following online. My personal favorite, What's My Line?, ceased production about a year before I was even born; there was a decent attempt at a revival done about 10 years ago, with Harry Anderson, but it wasn't picked up. The stage version that was done in NYC and LA was very good, and J. Keith Van Straaten did an EXCELLENT job staying true to the original. I'm a little leery about seeing some of the classics remade for television, especially since so many of the people who were most closely associated with them have passed on in the last several years (Gene, Charles, Brett, Kitty, Arlene, and many more). Many of the "updated" versions have been lacking either charm, intelligence, or decent production value (think CS '01, or Adrianne Curry going for toilet humor on the Game Show Marathon segments a few years ago). The one revival that I have enjoyed is Brady LMAD, which has gotten Monty Hall's blessing...it actually stays true to the format, but has been given a modern twist. That is a revival done right, IMHO.
