Here's another thing about the Sony purge. rashad1428 got hit with all three copyright strikes by Sony for uploading full season 28 Wheel of Fortune episodes and full season 27 Jeopardy episodes to YouTube, but then he got suspended.

I haven't had any videos taken down due to a copyright claim nor any strikes against my YouTube account.

Ever since the Sony purge of WoF and Jeopardy! episodes back in June/July, you won't believe this:

New users are uploading WoF episodes to YouTube as of lately. There are fresh Chuck Woolery episodes published in recent weeks. Plus some shopping era episodes and even some 1990s episodes.

Yep, as they say, when episodes get purged, more will come in. It's an endless thing.

I am safely declaring that someone posted links to certain users' episodes to certain threads on the Sony boards, and put their accounts in non-game show jeopardy as a result.

Wouldn't surprise me if someday, when the Sony board is back up and running again, Sony imposes a rule that no links to pirated videos are allowed to be posted. GSN has that rule, so why not Sony boards?

^^ It would be self-defeating, Jon. Actually, I think your idea is partially right; however, I think it was more of a cascading issue, e.g. they clicked on one video and then DMCA'd all the related links. Any time you put up any video on YouTube, you risk having a copyright claim put on it.

I've heard stories of constructive criticism of videos resulting in account suspension, as well as video responses that the original user didn't like. The interesting part is that normally, a DMCA is more claiming a breach of IP, whereas now the more powerful users with millions of views are using it to quash the smaller viewers.

I think that copyright law has become such a twist and turn type of policy that there is no real interpretation that works, and usually, money and political influence wins over all. A good example of what can go wrong is when your family doctor owns your reviews of his services. Utterly disgusting.

    Really? GSN has that rule?
GSN certainly doesn't follow that rule.

There you have it, folks. 1 point for posting links to pirated material, and expires in 14 days.

I'm sure that if it's a rare find (and nobody's going to find them ever again), someone's going to let it slide.

If it's last night's episode of Jeopardy!, then it's probably going to get you a warning.

^ Exactly. There have been so many YT links posted here and on the old boards and nothing ever happens to them. The only time it seems to be a problem is when it's a GSN original.

Especially when it's TPIR episodes - particularly those that feature Holly which Bob Barker vetoed to have aired again. Plus TPIR episodes from recent seasons that will never see the light of day again - possibly due to models who are involved in litigation. And NBC episodes of WOF that likely have been erased - they probably won't be affected.

As for rashad's account being suspended back in June, it's probably because of lack of thinking and the consequences he could face. He took a risk uploading the entire run of Season 28, and after the season ended, they were deleted, and his account went with it as well.

There used to be a St. Patrick's Day NBC episode from 1987 on YouTube. It likely wasn't affected by a copyright claim, but the person who uploaded it probably removed as a precautionary measure in the wake of what had happened to at least 3 users - 2 of which got suspended. I really am glad I downloaded it while I had a chance.

I know rashad1428's YouTube accouint was suspended in June after he uploaded his own full episodes of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy to YT.

Here's another thing about the Sony purge. You guys really know that WheelManiac had to remove his Wheel of Fortune episodes as a precaution, but he didn't get hit with any strikes against his own account. Someone can tell me the one thing we don't want to do with game show clips.

The one thing you don't want to do with game show clips? Monetize. It's tempting because of their high view count per diem, but I've already seen clips that normally would fly with the 'Tube go under because their owners got, eh, "greedy". It's not worth the 25c/day to violate copyright....produce your own game show and you'll make a pretty (few) pennies.

Here's one thing. I really had to watch those classic Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy episodes before they could violate copyright and Sony could take them down. That's as good as not monetizing game show clips.

  13. #43
Those Whammies at Sony had filed copyright claims on any Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy episodes that violated copyright, then they took those full episodes down from YouTube. I can't believe rashad1428 got hit with all three copyright strikes by Sony and got suspended.

Unless it's current season TPIR episodes in their entireties. Though some users have uploaded small clips of TPIR from recent airings. Other than that, it seems as if Fremantle doesn't care - otherwise a lot of their stuff would have been toast long before now.

Older episodes of TPIR are probably not affected because Fremantle and CBS seem very leery about airing them again - mainly due to all the troubles that models, such as Holly, Claudia, Brandi and now Lanisha, caused CBS and Fremantle because of the lawsuits they filed against the show. CBS probably will never allow those episodes to air again, even if the show was to be cancelled. Such episodes are considered "questionable in nature" and CBS may have no desire to let any network air reruns of those episodes ever again. Regardless if Rachel or Gwendolyn is on an uploaded episode, if the YouTube upload features Brandi or Lanisha, chances are it may be a safe upload and an episode that the production company doesn't give a damn if they exist on YouTube or not - as long as it will never appear on TV again.

Thank you ever so much, CardSharks8689. The full episodes of season 28 of Wheel of Fortune and most of season 27 of Jeopardy, which rashad1428, were the episodes that violated copyright.
