    GSN's New Summertime Advertisements

Don't know about the rest of you here, but GSN's new "Summertime" advertisement is really creeping me out.

I don't think showing Jerry Springer in a speedo is going to make me want to watch more Baggage.

And the fact that Drew Carey is being promoted in that advertisement as well leads me to believe, much to my dismay, that GSN won't be removing Improv-A-Ganza from the schedule, despite the low ratings. At least for the summer anyway...

Don't know why GSN bothered to put money into creating such an advertisement when it's not promoting anything we don't already know.

For those of you who haven't yet seen it, the advertisement promotes The Newlywed Game, Love Triangle, Baggage, Improv-a-Ganza, and Bill Engvall's Lingo by showing the hosts of all 5 programs practically naked surfing atop a surfboard in the ocean.

    Thoughts, anyone?

I've seen the commercial as well and I truly believe that (don't get mad at me for saying this) GSN is trolling it's fanbase and it's viewers. Seriously, promoting some awful shows like Love Triangle and Improv-A-Bomb? I'm ok with The Newlywed Game and Baggage being promoted. I'm somewhere in between with Engvall Lingo. If you listen to the promoter's voice near the end of the commercial, he sounds happy that abominations like Love Triangle and Improv-A-Bomb are going to be shown all summer long. Seriously? I mean, hardly anybody likes these two shows. Why get excited about this?

And is it me or is GSN becoming the new MTV of television? This channel keeps airing reality shows (Love Triangle and Baggage) and shows that don't even resemble game shows (Improv-A-Bomb). Comparison: the M in MTV stands for Music. Hardly any music is shown on that channel. The GS in GSN stands for Game Show. GSN is slowly moving away from showing actual game shows. Need I say more?

I thought of that when I first saw this new commercial yesterday.

    I don't mind the commercial - yet.

I liked "Catch a Wave". I don't really see why people didn't like that one. I like the Beach Boys song to.

This new promo I think is way worse. I do not like this one because, no game shows involved but Lingo. But, thats not really a reason, I know. Just saying.

Ahem! Newlywed Game IS a Game Show. Plain and simple.

Many of us would respectfully disagree. ^

The definition of a game show: A television program on which people compete for cash and/or prizes.

The Newlywed Game is a game show. Three teams on podiums answer questions hoping to match their partners' answers. The team who matches most often wins a grand prize.

Baggage is a game show. Three people compete to win the affection of a member of the preferred gender by revealing shocking details about themselves. The winner goes to the bonus round to decide whether he can accept her baggage. If he decides he can, they win the grand prize.

Y'all are right in saying Love Triangle and Improv are not game shows. I've never been able to stomach a whole episode of Love Triangle, but from what I understand, it's really only a talk show with the same premise each show, much like Love Connection. Improv speaks for itself- there's no competition going on and no prizes being given out.

It's your opinion it's not a game show. It's a fact that it is.

As for the commercial. It's not a bother to me. I really don't care. I REALLY don't care. It's better than that Catch a Game crap that infested the network back in the summer of 2008. The logo changed, every promo was in that form. I remember watching one morning and remember seein it disappear. Oh what a happy day that was.

I'm not sure what I'm more tired of...the rerun abuse, the smut shows, the dogs that never go away (Poker, Improvabomb, et al), or the constant (and sometimes argumentative) shilling by a few. I have been on these boards for almost 6 years, and it's downright ugly around here lately, in certain forums. Why the hell can't we be civil?

More like "Catch A Game". It should have been renamed "Catch A Shame" or "Catch A Lame" when it was prevalent, but not anymore.

And I do agree, after seeing the new Summertime promos, I suddenly like "Catch A Game" more than the current promos.
