My best advice is to start off with a word that has 2 to 3 vowels in it (a, e, i, o, u, and if those fail, try y; I've had this happen before with the word "abyss" after trying "adieu" and "aorta" without any vowels fitting in the word). Basically, eliminate the vowels the best you can.
Also, try remembering words that have been correct guesses in the past. For example, I never forget the word "casks" (seriously, what is that?) after that was a correct word and I failed to guess it right the first time (yeah, my game ended because of this word). This word has shown up a few times afterwards and I make sure to never forget about it.
One more thing. I don't do this, and I probably should, but it wouldn't hurt to write down the correct words you have seen for reference. I always seem to encounter words I've guessed correctly before time and time again. Try to remember these words.
To add onto that, two other good words of advice are:
1.) Try playing with the lights ON. I can't tell you how many times I've acidentaly mispeled wirds becuz of lack of ligth (that sentence was on purpose by the way). What's worse is when the misspelled word ends up being the right word! It's happened to me a few times. Of course, knowing where the letters are on the keyboard helps too. Typing fast is key, but hitting the correct letter is key too. Practice makes perfect.
2.) Play with energy. By that, I mean be awake, be alert, and be ready to go after it. Playing late like right now isn't the best of ideas. Not necessarily the best of moves if you want to improve your score on the leaderboard, but whatever time you fancy some Lingo, then by all means play whenever you want.
doug i agree with you i played and when i am tired cant think. In additon, i have had words i knew were write and spelt them wrong because I had my fingers on the wrong keys or switched letters and the lack of light is awful. Not that I am great with the game. I would use your advice to keep track of words I have used becuase there was a day I played and the same word came up three times in a row the game would end and the word popped up again and again. I have gone on websites and googled 5 letter words or 5 letter words that begin with (whatever letter you are looking for). I did this to just study some so when I play i can think of some because the vowels can throw you off. So I will take your suggestion and keep track of my own list.
Here's another thing I must say. This might sound absurd, but if you get above 7,000 points after grabbing the Lingo balls, then the bonus round afterwards becomes very hard. I don't know if it's me, but some of these words are very hard to think of. For example, I just got above 7,000 points after getting a Lingo. Then, after like three correct guesses in 20-25 seconds, I could not think of the word "bombs", and then I couldn't think of the word "kudos". This isn't the first time it has happened to me. I guess you have to be really lucky with the words as well.
Hopefully PinksMinion finds this topic because this user is clearly better than me and might have better advice than me.
I've been considering writing down the words that have been correct in the past.
I've also been considering, and maybe you should consider to, Writing down any 5 letter words you can think of A-Z. That way, if you draw a blank, you could look at those words. This could work for if you make it to the Bonus round to.
As soon as Lingo was available, I started keeping a list of words alphabetically in columns (limit it to one or two pages for easy access) and even looked some up in the dictionary. As I played, I'd jot down words I missed and put an * by them so I'd know they'd been used before. After a while and a longer list of words, I started weeding out words with duplicate letters - you don't need several words all using the same letters since this will just bog you down. I eventually tried to come up with 4 or 5 words beginning with each letter that had the most range of letters, trying not to repeat letters if possible. For example, my words for S are score, sight, spawn, study. Most of the time with these words, I get enough letters to get the word. I'm always keeping an eye out for words that might add extra letters I don't currently have. And Doughboy, I didn't get bombs either or magma - really, who uses magma in conversation all that much except for Dr. Evil?
Thanks For The Tips My GSN Friends, I couldn't get more than a couple words, but, your tips helped me a lot. Just wanted to thank ya'll for taking the time to share them. Happy Oodleing Zekester
My Biggest Tip:
Just because you know a letter and a location, doesn't mean you have to use it.
For Example, if you've got FE_ _ D_ , and you were really stuck you might guess BACKS because then you can eliminate AB & C, and you've already got D, E, and F. Then if you guessed FIGHT you would cover G,H, and I.
I don't necessarily do this in alpha order or use those words, that was just an example, but I can usually eliminate 1/2 the alphabet in four guesses. I try to think of words containing as many letters not already on the board as possible.
I guess OFTEN a lot because I find I usually haven't guessed anything with an O, F, or T -but that's just my thinking you'll probably have to find your own word of letters you always forget about.
Small tip:
The One thing I learned from years of watching Wheel of Fortune,
the most commonly used letters are R S T L N E.

Thanks from me too![]()
I try to guess what vowels are in the word first. That will give you a better image of the word.
