Interesting outlook: Top 5 Industries Hiring Now (Yahoo!)
Since I'm still in the long term career hunting phase (even though I am working in the field), I found this article to be of interest. Yahoo listed five fields hiring now across the United States.
Topping them all off is accounting, which makes the least amount of money but shows the greatest growth, at 31% over the past few months and expected to rise at least 22% between 2008 and 2018. I expected the average salary to be higher than the $68,000 given, because it is a competitive field, but also I always think that there's too many out there right now (every school which has red-blooded students graduates hundreds of them every year)
My personal favorite? My field of course, environmental consulting firms at #3. Interestingly, they're making well over $79,000 on average, which is encouraging, considering that I only graduated from Penn State with 6 people in my field. Given the booms in climate change policy and natural gas drilling and energy crises, I can only think of how fortunate I am to be experienced in the field and aiming for it (I have already received 11 interviews from the state - so they need environmentally conscious people).
Engineering doesn't surprise me, but the biggest one that stunned me was the retail sector, of which supervisory roles were right behind the engineering and consulting industries. Wrapping up the 5 spot, perhaps the biggest strain of them all (but big money in times like these), financial consulting.
Sus idiomas, por favor. (Your thoughts, please.)
