Wow that was freakishly nuts. Great job. Even if i watched that 30 times i don't think i could remember those patterns or move that fast.

Thanks, plaskey. You probably could do it with a lot of practice. I couldn't do that when I started playing in September. I always had the same strategy, but back then it was a challenge for me to make 12 loops in round 1. I remember trying to progress to doing 16. I actually used a sketch to help me figure it out. I kept improving, and now I can do 26 sometimes.
As for speed, you have to skip through the pieces efficiently. You want to click through them quickly, but not so fast that you accidentally skip over pieces you need. The way I do it is by highlighting the fourth piece down and then clicking on the skip button in a rhythm until I get to a piece I need. My rhythm is usually three clicks at a time.
You're welcome, squishmar. Even though I'm currently retired from playing Straws, I wasn't sure I should post the video. If I decide to start playing again, the other top players can see how I play, but I can't see how they play. In the end I decided that I don't care.
When I sent in the video, they offered me neighbor oodles if I would make a tutorial video. I told them I didn't feel up to it. I still don't feel up to it now. Besides recording Straws games, I have no experience making videos, so making a tutorial video would probably take a lot of effort.
I had trouble with straws today locking up and i missed my oodles it had freezed up alot ltely also, I saw the video and th perso is great but, it seems i would not have enought time before it would end. the other thing that i hate most of straws is not getting enouth oodles is the fact that when your playing sometimes I hit one thing and another shape will come up and i look at the board and that perticular shape is not even showing up so, where did it come from. also is having to get my oodles that i worked so hard to get build up get knocked down because of having to try to get my item i need.but no the one i need doesn't every show up and today i was minus 260 oodles because of this stupid curves. it looks like every curve are line should at least show up everyone but never showing up and the same ones show up is bad so i just play so i
can play the wheel and get some oodles . hope everone does better than me. had a good day.
Thanks for posting the video ExcellentPlayer, it was quite clever of you to come up with the pattern. Straws is one of my favorite games because it is challenging and I always feel I can do better the next game. I've worked up to 7 or 8 loops in the first round but it usually takes me quite a few games to come up with a scoreof 1900 to 2000.
I would think that Straws would be like all the other games... even if you are an expert at it, it still takes patience (most days) to get "dealt" that lucky game that has the *capability* of scoring high. Some games you get are just duds... no matter what you do with them, the potential to score big just isn't there.
I'm wondering how many games it took to capture that perfect, great game on video?
That's true, squishmar. It took a lot of tries. Sadly, I don't remember about how many. I think a game in which the glass and pitcher never obstruct the middle of the board is probably the most conducive to a score over 4000. Btw, that game wasn't perfect. I made some mistakes. For one, I accidentally pressed 'juice it' in round 2.
You're welcome, brenfore. Thanks for the compliment. I think it's great that you enjoy the challenge instead of being put off by it.
bump up
I was getting very frustrated by that game. I think I have been able to connect the pitcher to the cup exactly twice, never mind the looping stuff. Clearly it is a game which doesn't fit my thought patterns. If you could turn the pieces, THEN we'd be talking about something I could deal with, but since I never know what is coming up, I haven't any idea how to place the ones that I have in hand and i spend too long thinking about it to do what the video does. I might have to try that and see if it helps since i only seem to be able to post NEGATiVE scores! Thanks for posting that though. It makes me feel better that there is SOME solution possible, even if diddn't think of it. That game was really staring to piss me off.
And btw - *** are "Neighbor Oodles"?
Thanks, ExcellentPlayer for making YouTube video. You have mad skills. I loved watching how you placed your pieces so quickly. Mindboggling to me. I even manage to end up with a negative score on one of the three rounds at times. LOL. Kudos to you.
Someone pointed out this video a few months ago. I tried to duplicate it even for one round but never could. Must have took a lot of practice.
Now that's cool, I always wondered how people could score over 3000 points. I think my highest score ever was around 1600. Thank you for the video, even if I cannot reproduce a score like that at least I know that those huge scores are not a product of cheating. At first I thought there was a secret loophole in the game but now I can see that it is legit.
Game on GSNers!
