Besides the annoying contestants and if you didn't have a headache, Whammy! wasn't that bad to watch compared to Catch 21. It still is capable of 300K numbers at 10am on weekends.

The only advantage Whammy had on the original PYL was the Big Bank -- and perhaps having things fall on the annoying contestants.

    GSN shows with annoying contestants
    *Whammy!
    *Catch 21
*The Newlywed Game (season 5 mainly)
    *Lingo (Engvall)
    ...and so on

So, in laments terms, the entire GSN schedule?

  8. #488
Didn't Dylan Lane's Chain Reacton also have annoying contestants?

Oh yeah...then there's the adaptation of 1 vs. 100, which had both annoying contestants AND an annoying host who always seemed to be yelling, and that whole virtual mob thing. Which is why I preferred the Povich version, rerun-abused as it has been.

Not really. Not as much as 1 vs. 100 at least.

1 vs. 100 was one of the most annoying GSN originals. But you have to remember its a different format than other game shows. There are 101 contestants, the studio is wide open and the crowd in always making noise. So consider that. And What was the Povich version?

He probably means Maury's version of 21.

    When was that?

  14. #494
It was on NBC, I believe, back in 2000.
