I enjoy seeing reruns of Whammy The All New Press Your Luck every morning and I am curious to know why GSN cancelled Whammy The All New Press Your Luck? It was a great show and I would love to see Whammy brought back with new episodes.,

Whammy! was a pretty good show but the whole concept of it and the contestants got annoying to me after a while. The show was one of those shows where there were not very smart contestants typically.
Actually, there were plans for a 3rd season, but due to the changeover in 2004, that 3rd season idea went the way of the dinosaurs.
Disappointing. I really wanted to see a 3rd Russian Roulette season.
Dang I miss that show
Whammy! had a many more contestants that were annoying. Maybe I'm thinking that because they always say "BIG MONEY! BIG MONEY! NO WHAMMIES!". The next show with the most annoying contestants is probably Catch 21. I would say Baggage but that's not a "true" game show (a dating game show), but on Baggage they also make them do crazy things.
Rich Cronin is a tard. That's why.
Russian Roulette and Whammy were both getting strong ratings, yet Cronin, being the Einstein (and I'm being sarcastic) that he is, decided to cancel those shows in favor of Reality junk. Bottom line: Cronin ruined GSN, and his successors are just continuing where he left off.
I agree that whammy does get annoying and sometimes I wonder about the contestants IQ, but you do have to consider Baggage as they have it on so many times. I do not believe that by any stretch of the imagination it can be considered a game show. Not even a dating game. I do believe it is an attempt to revive the original Dating Game. In the Dating Game though they did not come up with any of this baggage cr@p. How can a person get on national television and reveal that kind of trash. Don't they have any pride in themselves?
I will admit I do watch Baggage, (so sometimes I am not too sure of my intelligence).
Catch 21 is a game show, as they actually have people competing against each other and have to answer questions, even if they are multiple choice.
Now we will have Dancing With The Stars, which I refuse to watch. I watch this network because it is supposed to be game shows. I am quickly turning to other channels where I might learn how to do something. I am now watching a lot more of HGTV, DIY, and the news channels such as Fox News and CNN. At least with the news channels, I am learning about what is going on in this world. Even though it can become downright depressing.
I hope gsn wakes up pretty soon, before they lose the people that are looking for real game shows to watch.
Many of us on this board have been loyal to gsn for years now. This past year has been the absolute worse for having anything really good to watch on this network. They could very well lose all of us.
If Fremantle acquires GSN, there could be Whammy! revived...
There was gonna be a third season of Whammy The All New Press Your Luck planned? I would've loved that too but too bad that Todd Newton moved on to another game show at the time,
Thank you very much for the info,
Vinnie
I agree with every single one of you. Even I can't take GSN lightly anymore, and I'm only 14! I've been loyal to the station since as long as I can remember, watching shows such as Classic PYL, 80's-early 90's Wheel, reruns of Jeopardy, Card Sharks, $25K Pyramid, all of when that stuff was on, and now instead of this network living up to its name and showing game shows all the time, classic or original, they have the guts to throw out all of our old favorites and replace it with reality? Man, what are they coming to? I mean sure, they still show some of the stuff, like Wheel, Jeopardy, Match Game, Whammy, all of those guys, but for God's sake, if they'd look back on their history and see their original logo, and remember what the initial GSN stand for, then maybe they'd open their eyes from black and white to the color it used to be! GSN means Game Show Network. Not Game/Reality show Network.
They need to make a change. Whammy was a hell of a show, strong ratings and everything! True, the new board was confusing, and the new Whammy weird (albeit the makeover for him was probably necessary) but none the less, it added a new flair and flavor to an old favorite. They even had the guts to get Peter Tomarken himself to host the question round at one point, let alone the fact that it caught everyone, even Todd Newton off guard! Reruns may be good, but I don't know if we ought to stand for this. Whammy deserved to live longer, and I hope GSN manages to get their heads out of the gutter and return themselves to their former glory, and along with it, restoring all of the old game shows, EVERY ONE of them, while still finding a balance for the new ones, like airing the newbies late at night, minus Lingo which would fit perfectly amongst the older shows, and smack the reality crap into the nighttime slot, and bringing back all of their online games too! Maybe even becoming the new hosts for Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy's online games (not counting the Facebook games) maybe even allowing us to choose from one of the many variations that was around in the early 2000's, and bringing back old favorites, Like Match Game online, yes that existed, Whammy online, Whammy plus, Russian Roulette, any one of them they can think of, by gum by golly they need to bring it back. What do y'all say?
Would be nice if they did, especially episodes from the late 80's to 90's.
And then honestly, I wouldn't want GSN to bring Whammy! back. It would be a more obnoxious show then Baggage or Catch 21. The contestants would probably be very dumb and loud. It's GSN is 2012 guys.
But, were the Whammies obnoxious?
should this topic be in the GSN Originals forum instead of the GSN Classics forum?
