TBS does make their own shows now.

But not a lot. Remember, at one time GSN had the following going, or in development.

    *The Newlywed Game
    *Baggage
    *Love Triangle
    *Improv
    *Catch 21
    *Lingo
    *1 vs. 100 (Inaba)

Instead now, we're at a good number, 4. What the network should be like, and no more.
    *The Newlywed Game
    *Baggage
    *Lingo
    *American Bible Challenge

Like Harvey Feud, Minute To Win It, the last few years of Wheel, etc. Hey, Wipeout is collecting huge (by GSN standards) numbers in reruns on truTV.
I say Variety to air programs that we could only see on GSN. The shows you mentioned can be seen on just about any other network. GSN is the place for a variety of Game Shows that can't be seen anywhere else. And since there is no variety in the schedule right now, it would be a welcome sight to see pretty much any older show. And I mention Password Plus and Super Password, because we already have Million Dollar Password, and it proved to show good ratings, but there are no other episodes besides those that already exist. Perhaps people would like to see how this show first came about! Old doesn't always have to mean bad for ratings. And if GSN was created only for the purpose of getting huge ratings, then they would have never existed in the first place, the game show genre is limited to such a niche audience. GSN used to be the place that catered to Game Show enthusiasts that wanted to enjoy programs that they either grew up with, or aired long before they were born, such as myself.

I don't mind that they want to expand their horizons and acquire newer game shows and create their own game shows. But when they start acquiring non-game shows for huge amounts of money, for an audience that doesn't match, then that's what gets people like me frustrated. The money could have been spent on acquiring shows such as those you mentioned, that would have been more sure bets than a Dancing talent show would have been.

If Dawson Feud isn't pulling in strong enough ratings, then change the times it airs, or change the season. It did well before, so it can do well again. Dancing did poorly on Friday and Sunday, so they removed it on Friday, only Sunday is left now. But you see, that already shows some change. Now we need variety added, because taking one show off and replacing it with a show that already airs 20 other times during the week doesn't make for a more interesting schedule.

So does TV Land, and so far they've been successful with it.

I never said they were making a plethora of them. I am simply saying TBS doesn't just air reruns of stuff from other networks anymore. Truthfully they never have done only that. They aired the Braves, wrestling, those god awful fishing shows, and they were also the home to stuff (or in my view crap) like the New Leave it to Beaver and Captain Planet.

Anyway, GSN's focus the next month or so should be to renew the Pyramid lease for the same season now and more seasons, and also Card Sharks, Match Game, and Dawson and or Combs Feud. All those shows come cheap so I really don't see why GSN would have a money issue with leases there.

Nobody really knows anything about their finances, so you can't assume it's a money issue. There could be any number of reasons for why they can't/won't pursue fresher episodes.

If that's the case then what? They can't afford them so they disappear and are replaced by more episodes of the 90s Family Feud? GSN may or may not be rolling in the dough, but we aren't talking about leasing DWTS which may have cost a lot. If they don't have the $$$ to lease old shows no one else is knocking down the door for then they really have problems and a rebranding of the channel can't be dismissed. That said, I'm not issuing dire warnings here. I believe they have the $$$ for these if they decide to do anything with them. As I said, we aren't talking a bidding war here.

But does that mean that we'll see some more Match Game with another lease next month?

I don't work for GSN. I have no idea when leases are up, what their plans are, or anything else. I'm simply explaining this in a dollars and cents manner and not with fanboy obsessive emotions regarding what they air, when, and why.

Oh. We'll see what happens with the leases.

We are going to have to see some more classics leases in the next 6 months or so. Match Game, Card Sharks (both versions), $25K/$100K Pyramid, and Family Feud (Dawson/Combs), should all be on the classic leases top priority in the first half of 2012. Then, one other classic they used to have, and also one or two popular modern game show acquisitions. That's what GSN should do in the next 4-6 months. During the Summer and Fall I would like to see money going towards the production of originals. (NG, Lingo, Baggage, and sadly, "Bible")

Check this article out about what the New York Post thinks about the cable network GSN.

    http://www.nypost.com/p/entertainmen...JnodbaTSjmDtFM

The article talks about how GSN got rid of classics for originals, and how "dirty" shows like The Newlywed Game, Baggage and the not-forgot Love Triangle are.

I will not have any problem with the bible show. Does that mean that we will see Match Game PM again?
