Well, at least it was nice to see Spelling Bee played for the first time in 2012.

Given that there normally are 6 playings in a single season (though Season 37 likely had more playings, thanks to many pricing games being on hiatus), I'd say the Bee will get one last playing in May before we close the books on Season 40.

I'll just bet she was going by the size of the car (the Fiat 500 Pop is charitably described as a shoebox on wheels; my 6'6" frame cringes just looking at it) in making that assumption... something to be careful of in the future, as cars start getting smaller.

Actually, Shel, subcompacts start at about $10-$11K for basic models that come with manual transmissions and all of the air inside and not much else. I watch Let's Make a Deal, and the cars on there are usually $12K-$17K in price, so to be honest, that lowball guess doesn't shock me as much as someone saying that three generic appliances cost $9000. Honestly.

Personally, as glad as I am that someone finally won a car, I'm just taking a step back and thinking about what this still means overall in terms of budget and winning. It still hasn't been good.

A Chevy Aveo during one playing of Spelling Bee last year did cost in the $12,000 range. I think there was one playing of Pass The Buck where a car was worth $12,000 plus - not sure when that was.

And let us not forget the Hyundai Elantra. They cost $15,000+ in Canadian currency, so chances are they cost in the vicinity of $13,000 or $14,000.

And Wheel of Fortune's 1/2 Kia tags offer a Kia Soul - they cost in the area of $14,000 or under, if I recall. Many Hyundai and Kia models offered on TPIR are relatively cheap - I can see why public transit is struggling where I live.

However, I'd like to ask one question...

17 February, in Hi-Lo. The last dedicated car game to be won before that playing of Spelling Bee was Card Game the day before.
