Allen went into a coma when Tom took over the show in 1980, so he was still alive. Allen died a few months later in 1981 after he was set to come back to host the show. The show had taped so many episodes in advanced that they weren't able to have Tom mention it on the show.

That's why we didn't see it until 1982, because of the taping of all the '81 episodes.

I was watching Password Plus this past Monday morning, and I discovered at least the first segment's screen appeared to be narrower. It was definitely fixed by the third segment. Why was the screen at the beginning narrower?

Someone/the control system at GSN got the aspect ratio wrong when the episode was programmed in.

If it had been in 1981, it may have passed, as Mr. Roper and Mr. Furley thought about the Jack Tripper character in "Three's Company."

Three's Company was also a "weird" show back then, and people questioned it. But wow times have changed.

I already forget there have been a ton of stupid players on Password Plus and Super Password. I think the $25,000 Pyramid had a better casting call.
