How about Dylan Lane hosting GSN Pyramid?
How about Dylan Lane hosting GSN Pyramid?
how about Andy Richter hosting GSN's Pyramid?
Friday hardly has any viewers to care about in the first place. 100K Pyramid is dying there, a 178K viewer average in the latest published week. 25K Pyramid can't do much worse, I guess.I wouldn't be shocked if they decided "Who cares about the viewers? Put 'em on Fridays!"
And one more crosspost from the blog about GSN's upfront, with a photo of (naturally) Jeff Foxworthy...
Mr. Foxworthy
GSN's upfront plate of reality stew mostly got yawns from the entertainment media. They've seen piles of reality detritus before, after all. But one show is attracting a little attention. GSN's Bible quizzer pilot with Jeff Foxworthy actually made a few pundits notice our (supposed) game show network.
Predictable snark popped from predictable sources. A Washington Post bloggeress can't wait for the "stoning-of-adulteresses question." I'd be more interested in the stoning of Beltway bloggeresses, but that's a detail.
Enough of my biases, though. Jeff Foxworthy seems like a natural for any GSN show right now. He's the network's new star, regularly scoring GSN's best numbers with 5th Grader on Sunday nights. And he's a traditionalist sort with a squeaky clean image.
I was a little afraid that he might try to make 5th Grader into the Jeff Foxworthy Standup Act (see Feud, Harvey). And sure enough, he couldn't resist a quip or three as the show's not-breakneck pace unfolded. But by and large he let the game breathe and the contestants be the stars. I'm honestly interested in seeing if he can get the Bible quizzer on the air.
UPDATE: A political pundit rips the WaPo bloggeress. Is the Bible quizzer going, gasp, viral? GSN will take the free publicity.
He's the announcer for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Recently, I watched an episode of Late Night where he was hosting Pyramid and he seemed to be pretty decent. He also hosts Password on Late Night as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdEJRt4gBnM is an example of him hosting Pyramid.
This, to me, is an issue. This bible-themed game show, while innocuous on its face, could lead to the little cable network being politicized, which is never a good thing. The last thing GSN needs after constantly being shuttled up the dial is to be seen as "liberal" or "conservative" and thus alienating a large section of the possible audience. I mean, they are trying to grow the audience, right?
BTW, Newsbusters is crap. It and Media Matters greatly contribute to the "My side is good, yours is EVIL" mindset that makes political discussion on the internet and in real life a fruitless endeavor.
This little cable network needs to be noticed, if it's ever going to be a bigger cable network. If the Bible quizzer gets some notice for GSN, that's hardly a bad thing. Nothing else in GSN's upfront seems to have gotten much attention, except the general drift towards reality shows. And none of the particular reality efforts seem to interest anybody much. This, to me, is an issue. This bible-themed game show, while innocuous on its face, could lead to the little cable network being politicized, which is never a good thing.
Incidentally, I thought the Newsbusters guy was a lot less snarky than the WaPo lady. To be honest, I was a lot snarkier towards the WaPo columnist than he was.
it might be mario lopez since doing something with gsn
This is why they should have kept Card Sharks, and make a Friday night block out of the Perry/Eubanks versions. It would do better probably, since it was #1 in the mornings, that's the only time on the schedule it will be shown, and performed best on "Flashback Friday" months ago.
Didn't GSN learn from their last reality show? It never did that well in the ratings.
In the Google news cache, the main news about GSN is Foxworthy and the Bible show. After all, when was the last time you saw a Bible quizzer on TV? It's man bites dog. Meanwhile, reality shows are all over the place. That's dog bites man.Just saw an article from Uncle Barky (former DaMN TV critic who has his own blog). He mentions The American Bible Challenge and $100,000 Pyramid, but not the reality slate. Which pretty much matches what you said.
Not that anything GSN does will get huge notice. But a Bible game show is something so far out of the ordinary, it attracts attention even on GSN.
