Now we've been talking about what stations that never carried certain series, but I would like to know what CBS affiliates carried BL, Tattletales and Combs' Feud. I know that WJXT-TV blacked out BL and Combs' Feud altogether(even Family Feud Challenge), but didn't WJXT also blackout Tattletales or even Beat the Clock as well?
I wouldn't know for anything. You'd have to contact someone who had been really watching these game shows or if possible CBS, but that probably wouldn't work.
WJBK in Detroit carried Body Language - at least for the show's final months. It aired in the 9:00 a.m. ET slot right before the Gene Rayburn era of Break The Bank. I do remember recording 4 game shows on Christmas Day 1985 and Body Language was one of them, as well as Break The Bank, $25,000 Pyramid (which GSN currently has the rights to, but maybe not for long), and the Christmas Day 1985 episode of Press Your Luck. After Body Language got axed, Press Your Luck moved into Body Language's former spot on the Detroit affiliate in January 1986, and Card Sharks with Bob Eubanks started airing in the 10:30 a.m. slot around that time.
As for Combs' Feud, WJBK in Detroit never aired it at all. Not even Family Feud Challenge. Though they did air the syndicated run from January 1989 until September 1990. I even remember "The Feud is Back!" promos from late 1988 and very early 1989.
Not sure about Tattletales, though. But I am almost certain WJBK didn't air it in 1983 or 1984 (as CBS had just been added to Newfoundland's cable lineup around August or September 1983).
Did CBS not air them for the whole country?
Those shows aired in many parts of the country. It's just that some select shows never got cleared by select affiliates, so the local affiliate (in my case, WJBK in Detroit) chose not to air said shows in favor of syndicated programming, namely talk shows.Originally Posted by Lingofan97
Slightly off-topic, but WDIV in Detroit never aired Super Password except for a few months in the late spring and summer of 1987. It may be possible that a syndicated show (talk show, maybe?) got cancelled or yanked off the air in May 1987 due to low ratings, and the NBC affiliate in Detroit may have chosen to air Super Password and another half-hour program as a filler until something else was found to replace the cancelled show. By September, Super Password was off the WDIV airwaves. My hometown in Newfoundland didn't get full exposure to Super Password - until GSN aired it full-time, starting in 2005.
WJXT didn't air Combs Feud. It was on the NBC affiliate in Jacksonville IIRC.
Edit: Just checked and saw it was on CBS during the Combs broadcast network years. I know it did air there because when I was in middle school (90-91) I recorded some daytime eps of the show.
As for my local CBS affiliate (WLNS Lansing, MI), they did air at least Combs' Feud until about 1992-ish (they didn't air the Family Feud Challenge era, yet they still aired promos for it with a "Not Seen Locally" disclaimer tacked onto the bottom of the screen). Body Language was never aired, nor was 80's Tattletales (70's version did air locally, though).
This brings me back to when game shows were on CBS and all other main networks all day basically. (or at least MUCH more than now)
KPIX in San Francisco carried all three shows at some point ("Body Language" in its first few months on the air before moving to what is now KOFY, "Tattletales" off and on, and this one tended to switch frequently between KPIX and KOFY during its CBS run, and I believe KPIX carried Combs "Feud" for almost as long as it was on CBS. In the last year of "Feud"'s run, it moved to KICU.)
How things have changed over the years. My Network TV carries most of the Harvey Feud episodes. Is this the same for everyone???
Cardsharks8689, about Family Feud on WJBK syndicated when it premiered in January 1989, was it about the time it changed it's logo with a gold 2 with a red ball? When did WJBK change its logo was it December 1988 or January 1989?
Also, did you see the WJBK bumper with Ray Combs of Feud congratulating the Detroit Pistons when they won the championship in 1989? It is on YouTube.
Also, WJXT didn't air Price Is Right in the early 1980s. It aired the Richard Simmons show in it's standard 11am slot.
That would have been very early 80s then and I would assume they aired TPIR at another time. It wasn't controversial like Dallas where they preempted it for like the first 2 years entirely.
Philadelphia's CBS affiliate showed every network program, unlike ABC which would never broadcast anything noon from 12:30 other than "Action News."
Well, a lot of networks like to compete with other stations and have their news at noon, 5, 6 and 11pm, like most other stations across the country. I don't blame ABC for doing that. In my part of the country CBS, NBC and ABC all have their news at noon, 5, 6 and 11pm
