    Cispa

This is a cyber snooping bill. Basically, if this is passed, the government could gain the right to spy on you when you use the internet. You know what to do. Contact your representative and kill this bill. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/201...entative.shtml

I heard about CISPA on BigJon's forums, and when I saw the link to the petition, I decided to sign it. No guarantees it will work, but worth a try.

However, if Barack Obama vetoed SOPA, chances are, he will likely veto CISPA as well.

It won't affect Canada as much as the U.S., though; although there is a copyright bill that may end up becoming law in Canada before the summer. If it passes, I am done with recording and archiving game shows, downloading any of BigJon's games (or any game show PC game in existence on the Internet), and downloading music, older American Top 40 broadcasts, and YouTube videos for quite some time (most likely for good). If it becomes law, I will treat the law like gospel, and take it seriously.

I have been developing PC games for some time now, but in response to Canada's copyright bill, I am going to play it safe by not releasing them to anyone, publicly or privately. You never know who could be watching over me.

And to a certain user whose name I won't mention, if what I said is considered "being paranoid", that comment is dead wrong. There's a huge difference between "being paranoid" and "abiding the law" - what I will be doing is actually the latter.

The problem is CISPA can be used "in the name of fighting terrorism" more easily than SOPA, which means it will get a lot more backing. Look at everything else the government does: grope you and subject you to cancer-causing radiation when you want to fly, can't get in a sports stadium without cleaning your pockets, cameras on every streetcorner, inflated currency which makes you use credit, etc. It's hard to imagine how not downloading Rebecca Black will make any impact on terrorism fighting (aside from people wanting to gag her with a tennis ball :P but that's a different thread) but all that is needed is to show some Saudi communicating with a "sleeper cell" here in the US to get the bill on the top of the docket.

And Jon, I would say this: Even if SOPA passed, I wouldn't change my downloading habits one bit. I probably would not torrent my one episode of TV every few weeks, but using YouTube and the such wouldn't change. I told another member of this forum that my videos would stay up and that YouTube alone would have to take them down.

Now that Crosby and Malkin have nothing to do, let's send them down to D.C. to slash and elbow every politician who even thinks about voting for that bill which would be perfect for Arab countries, China, Germany from the 1930s-1945, etc., but not this supposed free country we live in.

To keep up to date with disturbing issues like CISPA I get emails from demandprogress.org. They send out mass emails on such topics to the members, usually accompanied by a petition and the option to sign it. This really seems to be effective. Also they will give you the name and number of your local congressman when need be. They do ask for donations as it is all volunteers but theyre not obnoxious about it. Oh and Obama has threatened to veto CISPA if it passes.

Spyware and Malware programs have been slowing down the operating systems of our computers for years, now, and suddenly, our government is making an issue out of this?
