A Few Changes Happening Next Week (4/30)

Well, looking at the ever correct online schedule, there are some changes next week.

Looks like Harvey Feud gets an hour at 11:00pm Every night (Weeknight Block scheduling looks to be reduced by 1 hour).

Baggage gets the midnight 12:00am spot, and Engvall Lingo gets 1:30am, so, they're basically switching spots in late night. Don't worry, shows like Family Feud, Password Plus, and others are still in their spots.

They are going to drive Harvey's Feud into the ground. This is why I said a few days ago in a thread they need to lease a boatload of stuff the 70s-now from Fremantle, Sony, and anywhere else they can find just to stop rerunning what they have over and over. Harvey's Feud is a good add, but it's going to be like everything else if they keep showing it several hours everyday. The idea is to make people want to see more not make them sick of it after a few weeks or months.

These are both scheduling changes I agree with. There will probably be more changes on the weekend. Engvall Lingo was doing well at midnight, but I really like the idea of Baggage at midnight. Then shortening the block schedule an hour is good even if it is Harvey Feud.

Harvey Feud will get worn down. If GSN doesn't change any other slots, Harvey Feud will now air 32 times a week. But, I do like the idea that the block scheduling is shortened an hour

GSN should really air Karn or O'Hurley Feud at 11:00pm ET if they want Feud. If they want Harvey Feud to stick, they can't keep running it into the ground.

There are more noticeable changes of the pdf's for the next couple weeks

*Everything above is posted on the pdf's
*On May 7th, "New" is still posted on the episode numbers next to $25,000 Pyramid, no celebrities mentioned
*Steve Harvey also takes the 11 and 11:30pm slots on Saturdays and Sunday nights (after 5th Grader, replacing Engvall)
*Same exact episodes of Steve Harvey's Feud every night at 5 & 5:30pm as well as 11 & 11:30pm

Engvall has been reduced to 10 slots a week, but Harvey is now up to 36 slots a week

Ok, well if it's the same episodes that isn't as bad. That's along the lines of what I think they should do at night anyway.

They used to do that with Karn Feud at 4PM & 1AM hours. I agree that it's a good idea.

Baggage & Engvall Lingo both did fine at night - so I'm curious why they switched them. Engvall at midnight on Wednesday after Harvey Feud also does great, keeping a good amount of it's lead in for the midnight hour. Although, when Newlywed Game/Baggage were at the 11PM hour for a while, they did great.. so maybe Baggage at midnight will do better than Lingo. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I really think it would be a good idea to replace one of Engvall's weekday airings with The Newlywed Game, considering it's not shown at all on Wed or Thurs, and only once on Friday. Even a Carnie Wilson episode would be fine.

The pdfs are up on the blog. GSN noted the changes in the accompanying e-mail but there was still no explanation on the weird "New" episode numbers for 25K Pyramid. Who knows if it means anything? The show has been doing bad numbers on Friday night, anyway.

O'Hurley is getting two slots axes with the Harvey Feud additions. O'Hurley only has the 12:30am slots, the 4pm hour on Sunday, and it block marathons. O'Hurley now has a total of (only) 17 slots a week, which in my opinion is what Karn and Harvey should have each, but have a lot more.

Engvall was doing well at midnight, and was a good lead-in from Wednesday's Harvey block. But that's only one night a week. Engvall did better at midnight anytime then Improv ever did there. Baggage at midnight may turn out well, since its always done better later at nights. I don't think GSN wanted Baggage on twice from 12am-2am, so that's why Engvall got pushed back.

Engvall's weekdays airings usually have a weekday average of early 200K's, which could be better but for a series of 40 episodes could be A LOT worse. I have suggested in the past that they should have an episode of Wilson's The Newlywed Game weekdays at 2:30pm.

I'm not concentrating on those numbers. The block scheduling is lowering ratings for everything. But for 10:30am in the morning, Clark does fantastic, and is now the best rated classic even with massive rerun abuse.

How many "weekly" game shows have there been? Meaning aired once a week either on network or in syndication. I know Millionaire and DOND did and they've been beaten to death so not real interested in that. I also know of Match Game PM but what othes have their been?

From the blog with a photo of (no lie) a GSN t-shirt...

    Use it or lose it

GSN just sent me new schedule pdfs for the next couple weeks. Surprise, surprise, Steve Harvey's Family Feud gets another hour every day at 11:00PM.

This set off predictable whines on the GSN board about Harvey Feud getting used too much. If the show dated from before 1990, nary a complaint would be heard on the board. But we'll leave that aside for the moment. What's really strange is that folks apparently think cable networks should refrain from riding their biggest ratings-getters for all they're worth.

What else is GSN or any other cabler supposed to do? When a show starts monopolizing a network's top rating slots, of course the show's gonna get more timeslots. And more timeslots after that.

There's a reason that History runs Pawn Stars ragged. The show happens to be splattered all over the top cable ratings. Nobody should expect GSN to show any more restraint in its use of Harvey Feud.

GSN has never showed an acquired game show more than this, which is 36 times a week. Lingo was shown 41 times a week last summer, but that's one of GSN's shows. I think this is the most abuse a show is getting, even though it's new

25k Pyramid may not light up Friday nights, but it does very well in daytime. In the latest published week, it got a 237k average at 10:30am. It beat a lot of other shows in daytime, even Lingo at noon and Deal Or No Deal at 1pm. Heck, it pulled above the total day average which was 212k.

Your latest post reflects apparently only what you want to believe. I know I complained for months about Match Game being on 4 times a day, when it was added to the weekends, and oh by the way, I STILL think it's on too much. Since that's the only "per-1990" show being aired on a daily basis so often it's the only one I can beat the drum on. Middle of the night reruns of any show that aired earlier I have no problem with. The concern, at least on my part is burning through the episodes like a wildfire. I dont care that USA airs NCIS all day long 2 or 3 times a week and have been for 4-5 years now. I don't care about some pawn show and its number of airings. All of those stations do well with theirs. Apparently this block scheduling and multiple airings ISNT working on GSN because the ratings are trending downward overall and eventually Harvey's Feud is going to also if they keep running it to death. You are performing a game show argument like my cousin does religion and politics. Everything turns into a right vs left political argument with him. Every concern raised by anyone turns into classics only vs other shows to you. You refuse to accept some of us don't care what the show is, what year it was made, who the host is, etc. If we think it airs too much then we think it airs too much, period!

I see logic in both arguments. In yours, you're right that the ratings suggest that massive rerun abuse doesn't work on GSN. On Casey's side, it's certainly standard operating procedure to use it up until people get sick of it, and until the ratings suggest otherwise, GSN will do exactly that.

Where do I come down on it? I don't agree with Harvey getting so many slots in such a short period of time, but as opposed to the alternatives, it could (and probably will) get worse. While I wish they would add more variety, to expect that is unrealistic with this group (and ratings not justifying it).
