    GSN ratings from GSN

GSN has released official numbers on some of their ratings on their corporate page.

The press release states that the $25,000 Pyramid hour on Saturday, honoring Dick Clark saw ratings up 32% from regular episodes that air now. On Sunday, April 22, Harvey Feud at 5:30pm received 587,000 viewers, and 5th Grader later that night at 8pm received 742,000 viewers, a 6-year network high.

We will have to see what the official ratings say from The Son of The Bronx sometime this week or early next week.

Good to see some good ratings for the network. Also, I must say that if the Dick Clark tribute 25,000 Pyramid shows in the weekend time block (starting at 12pm) saw a 32% increase in that 25-54 demo, that is great news. And that right there proves that its not just "all people over 60+ who watch the older game shows". Maybe that will convince GSN to make adjustments to the weekends with some older shows, perhaps? Yes, I know it was a tribute, but still it shows some younger audiences like to watch the older shows. GSN wouldn't state in the press release that 25,000 Pyramid got 32% a increase in the demos, if it weren't true.

Holy cow. GSN IS back from the dead thanks to Dick Clark's death.
Past Videogame Marathon champions: Michelle Wie, Rob Cesternino, Marie Digby, Quentin "Rampage" Jackson and ijustine.

This was just a one week event though, with only two airings. I just don't think that GSN has a big attitude to air classics anytime on weekends. But if they were too, I would say leave the morning schedule. Whammy! does well, and I'm assuming Chain Reaction is too.

Interesting they don't reveal anything else. I guess the rest must be bad.
It took them 6 years to achieve 700k+? What in 2006 equaled that?

Yeah, let's not get carried away. Things will return to "normal" with the schedule back as it is.

Unless we're talking about the block scheduling, I still don't consider GSN's ratings poor. It's a small network that only 63% of households get and game shows don't attract too many viewers. We would see higher daytime numbers with acquisitions of Eubanks' The Newlywed Game and Wheel of Fortune, but from now on good GSN numbers are above 200K daytime and 300K prime time.

Yeah, I don't think GSN would achieve these types of ratings every week with Pyramid on weekend afternoons. But it might be worth a shot.

    Probably one of the documentaries.

Well, Harvey Feud does seem to be doing really well for itself, and helping the ratings of other shows as evidenced by that 5th Grader number. I guess it goes to show that all GSN really needed was a hot new acquisition in order to recover from the setback that Improv-a-Ganza helped start.

No, they'll never put classics back on weekday late afternoons. Maybe someday classics will expand into weekdays in the noon or even the 1pm hour, but I was talking about if they were to air classics again on weekends, I would recommend the 12pm-2pm slot for $25,000 Pyramid, and maybe something else. Then at 2pm Donny's Pyramid on weekends.

Sooner or later we'll see the entire week of April 16-22 from Douglas Pucci. Frankly, the press release tells us nothing we didn't already know. Foxworthy and Harvey are the stars of the network. Well, duh.

And I'm not sure but I think Behind the Blank, the Match Game doc, might have gotten the big number back in 2006. I vaguely remember a press release about it.

UPDATE: Well, now I'm not so sure. Behind the Blank ran on GSN less than six years ago.

True, but it's not every week that you see 500K+ numbers at 5:30 PM on Sunday, or 700K+ numbers anywhere. I think that just goes to show that Harvey is increasing ratings for the network as a whole not only with his own strong ratings, but by boosting other shows much like Howie did.

GSN usually saw high ratings Saturdays 3-6pm with the Karn Feud/Sherriwed block. Now that the Saturday schedule has changed, we may see varying ratings. Now, Family Feud usually does great during the week in the 4pm hour, and should only do better at 5pm. But I don't see the 11pm Harvey Feud hour doing well overtime .

The last two things to get over 700K+ viewers on GSN were Behind The Blank and The Tonya Harding Anything to Win.

Wrong. The first Bob Eubanks ep of GSN's Newlywed Game on January 7, 2010 got 718K viewers. That was the last published 700K+ number on the network. Baggage and Family Feud occasionally came close in subsequent published weeks. Baggage got 690K on November 17, 2010, for instance.

But a lot of weeks went unpublished since January, 2010. So there may have been later 700K+ numbers we don't know about. Maybe the most remarkable recent ratings performance was a regular episode of Wheel of Fortune which somehow pulled 672K viewers at 2:00PM in the afternoon on Black Friday, November 26, 2010.

That's a little better than GSN usually does at 2:00PM.

I remember the times when Baggage used to get 500K+ viewers regularly in 2010 and early 2011. The show just got worn out, but in my opinion beside the block scheduling I simply don't think Baggage had too many episode demands. I think the time slots changing were one of the rules GSN got less views for Baggage. But both Eubanks episodes of The Newlywed Game in 2010 were funny, and pulled impressive numbers.
