What if Flashback Fridays became Throwback Thursdays?

    Taken from this blog:

    http://gsntheknow.blogspot.com/

"What is the cleanest day in GSN's week? If you said Friday, you are correct!

That's because Flashback Friday is by far, the worst day in the block scheduling era of today. Isn't that a shame? Because back then, Family Feud, Match Game, Card Sharks and pyramid filled out the slots. Perhaps there's a way to bring back the "Flashback" by moving back one day and calling it "Throwback Thursdays." By then, it'll become a ratings hit on our hands. If we did, we would do these for instance:

-have PYL in the first hour back to back
-have the Cullen & Rafftery versions of "Blockbusters" by 8
    - create a "Password" hour by having the "Plus" edition and the " Super" one afterwards
-and pick a "Game of the week" variety hour.

So if you think "Flashback Frodays" are unwatchable, GSN should recommend "Throwback Thursdays" for all your retro needs. That's my idea? Do you agree with that?"

I would certainly go for that, especially during bowling season when I'm not home on Friday evenings, and the real Press Your Luck would be a great program to include.

Just sticking to the 4-hour block scheduling now I would bring back Card Sharks and air that Friday nights since it's nowhere else on the schedule, and maybe add a slot at 9:30am eventually. But that's only if they bring it back. I also don't expect PYL on GSN anytime soon.

I created my own schedule a week or so ago that would include block scheduling but it would only run two hours during the week and three hours on weekends. Here is how it would go.

    Weeknights
    3-6pm: same as now
    6:00pm: The Newlywed Game
    6:30pm: Baggage
    7:00pm: Deal or No Deal
8-10pm: Blocks (Monday= Family Feud (Karn); Tuesdays= Family Feud (O'Hurley); Wednesday= Family Feud (Harvey) Thursday= The Newlywed Game Friday= $25,000 Pyramid)
    10:00pm: 5th Grader
    11:00pm: The Newlywed Game (Wilson)
    11:30pm: Baggage
    12:00am: Baggage

Lingofan, you do realize that Newlywed Game with Carnie Wilson will most likely never ever see the light of day again. Carnie Wilson sued GSN a few years back. I highly doubt that you will see it on the air again. I prefer Sherriwed anyday of the week even though I don't watch it!

The lawsuit was taken care of back in the Winter, and Carnie Wilson's The Newlywed Game have been on the air a couple times since actually.

It was for a very special tribute. Why would they want Carnie Wilson Newlywed Game on? She is like the Louie Anderson of the show. Yuck! I get the variety, but I'd much prefer Bob Eubanks to her in a heartbeat!

At least, it will not be rerun abused. Aren't there more than 1000 episodes of it?

Actually, there were a total of 757 episodes of PYL, but there are about just under 600 episodes available in the trading circuit and about 80% of those episodes in the trading circuit are from either USA or from the green ball-era GSN airings(some with speed-ups, just beware of it).

GSN got into the blog business? Uh-Oh, Abell better watch himself.

What will they air on Fridays?
Isn't this "Throwback Thursdays" just another excuse to move the low rated Friday block up a day? Kinda defeats the purpose since Friday and Saturday are lowest rated TV nights. Thursday is still somewhat substantial.

As I said in the other thread, put WWTBAM on Friday Nights. That show gets good ratings at 2am early Monday Mornings on the schedule as noted by Abell's cousin.

Monday nights now would be better. If GSN picks up another modern acquisition soon, then air it Mondays 7pm-11pm if GSN still sticks with the dreaded blocks. Family Feud bombs on Monday nights now

5th Grader does well on Sunday's, yes but, let's not forget when GSN had Million Dollar Sunday back in August, it seemed to do fairly good ratings. Even Who Wants to be a Millionaire? at the time if I recall.

If GSN did Million Dollar Sunday...

7:00pm - Deal or No Deal
    8:00pm - 1 vs. 100
9:00pm - Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?
    10:00pm - Million Dollar Password
11:00pm - Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

Just suggesting. 5th Grader would still be on Sundays. But maybe it would bomb like that but, who knows. We'd have to see. I hear million dollar game shows are losing appeal but, 5th Grader does fairly well on Sundays and the Million Dollar Sunday block did well back in August 2011. Food for thought.

By the way, if you don't remember, GSN was trying different stuff back in August 2011 to replace Improv a Ganza and Love Triangle on GSN. They tried the Play It Back: 70's, 80's and 90's Game Shows documentaries too.

No, back in August 2011 they did a Million Dollar Sunday block. That back then, was a one time deal.

I think ratings were posted for those. If I can find them, I'll edit this post.

Play it Back: 70's, 80's and 90's Game Shows Ratings

I don't believe I can find the ratings for Million Dollar Sunday, however.

Those were good. We never saw the ratings for those so I'm wondering how well they did. I was thinking in the future on Monday nights Catch 21 wouldn't be a bad addition. Of course I would rather have the block scheduling gone, but it could do better than 200Kish ratings
