    GSN Ratings - April 19 and 23-29

Douglas posted the ratings for the week of April 23-29, plus Thursday, April 19. I would have liked to see the ratings for the previous week with the Dick Clark tribute and the 700K+ 5th Grader number, but oh well.

    http://sonofthebronx.blogspot.com/20...9-29-2012.html

Basically we have more 5th Grader and Family Feud dominance, plus a few strong Newlywed Game showings, some 300K+ numbers for the 3 PM hour on Friday, and some surprisingly high numbers for Match Game in the 8 AM hour.

GSN block and daytime averages April 23-29

    Daytime averages (highest to lowest)
5:30pm Family Feud: 372K; daytime average highs right here
5:00pm Family Feud: 364K; daytime average highs right here
4:30pm Family Feud: 353K; and again, daytime average highs
4:00pm Family Feud: 312K; another daytime high
3:30pm Chain Reaction: 285K; another big daytime high
    3:00pm Whammy!: 271K; a smaller daytime high
8:30am Match Game: 246K; wow, after so much rerun abuse
2:30pm Lingo: 238K; better than Woolery, and somehow still this good
2:00pm Catch 21: 237K; up from a couple weeks ago
10:30am $25,000 Pyramid: 218K; still the best-rated classic (except those weird Match Game numbers)
10:00am Password Plus: 196K; Really? This bad?
    11:30am Match Game: 193K; average
1:00pm Deal or No Deal: 179K; poor, should go
11:00am Super Password: 179K; Ditto as Password Plus
    12:30pm Lingo: 163K; Just horrible
    8:00am Match Game: 144K; Just...great for 8am/5amPT
12:00pm Lingo: 144K; Woolery is performing horrible at noon
9:00am Family Feud: 139K; also bad
9:30am Family Feud: 134K; even worse, 9am hour should go

    Block averages
Monday Family Feud (Karn/O'Hurley): 214K; had only one 300K+ spot a believe, has to go, still better than Millon $ Monday
Tuesday The Newlywed Game: 245K; much better
Wednesday Family Feud (Harvey): 333K (first runs: 317K); very good, still performs better in 1-hour blocks instead of 5 hours
Thursday, April 19th Deal or No Deal: 228K; not that great
Thursday, April 26th Deal or No Deal: 207K; has to go, 1pm and this are both doing bad
Friday $25,000 Pyramid: 194K; Just bad, but maybe with possible lease it will do better
Saturday Family Feud (Karn/O'Hurley): 324K; better, ditch Monday nights and keep Karn/O'Hurley right here
Sunday 5th Grader: 380K; still amazing, wonder what will happen when it enters 100% reruns in a few weeks

Sherri/Jerry new episodes; performing very week, they've done better other weeks and I think they'd do better 5 nights a week back to back
    Monday: 233K, 256K
    Tuesday: 249K, 269K
    Wednesday: 191K, 215K
    Thursday: 250K, 217K
    Friday: 274K, 291K

Harvey and Foxworthy put up some good numbers; otherwise, everything else just flat out stinks. Definitely not the greatest week ratings-wise.

$25k Pyramid is bombing miserably on Friday nights as of late; I'd cut it down to just weekday mornings, because it still seems to put up respectable numbers there. Also the Passwords are kind of underperforming as well; Card Sharks usually pulled better numbers at 10:00 AM than Password Plus, and Super Password pulled much better numbers than this when it was on at 11:00 AM back in 2009.

Overall, this wasn't a horrible week for ratings. Most shows picked up, especially the 3-6pm weekday hours. Then, I'm surprised how badly P+ and SP are doing. Card Sharks did twice as well sometimes as Password Plus is doing right now. So those two "new" classics are underperforming.

Averages were 291K/226K prime time/total day. Actually a little improvement from recent weeks. Prime time looked solid on Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday. GSN did 350K+ prime time averages on those nights. Friday prime time was a black hole, and Thursday wasn't much better.

Crossposted to my usual weekly ratings post on the blog.

Maybe one day Flashback Fridays need real classics like PYL and WLOD.
Past Videogame Marathon champions: Michelle Wie, Rob Cesternino, Marie Digby, Quentin "Rampage" Jackson and ijustine.

Yeah, that would bring in the ratings.

At this point, I doubt there's much GSN can (or is willing to) do to improve their ratings. This is about as good as they will get.

You know, I don't think the issue with the Passwords is necessarily the shows themselves...it's that GSN's scheduling and promotion has been lacking, for the most part. Bringing Card Sharks back, along with one or two others to mix it up (Blockbusters, PYL, or Tattletales) could add a little variety to a largely rerun-abused block of shows. And Karn needs to go from daytime...he pulls much better ratings later in the day.

The shows that get the best ratings, of course, are the ones that are promoted to death. You have to let the audience know it's there for them to find it. Remember the incessant "Rayburn's Eleven" ads a few years back? If you remember, a lot of the daytime ratings were markedly better, because the shows were promoted (and I know there must be proof of that around here...hint, hint). The newer classics ad is a nice thought, but it needs to reflect what's really on, and this has already been addressed in another thread.

GSN should have added Password Plus/Super Password in the noon hour where it does better back to back, and at a later time. Then, it would be a better time if they were advertising it too. And then they also should have left Card Sharks at 10am and even 11am.

Oh. Never even dawned on me. I was thinking We Love Our Deal, Wheel of Deal, etc.

But we don't love our Deal now that it's doing bad with only 179K, right?

Deal or No Deal still puts up good numbers here and there; obviously its novelty has worn off over the years though. It's numbers are a far cry from the 500ks and 600ks it what it was putting up back in 2009.
