    Does anyone really pass?

Referring to modern Feud with Steve Harvey. After winning a face-off, does anyone ever PASS?
All I have been seeing is people playing the question outright and not passing. I wonder if they should even ask Play or Pass anymore....

Hardly anybody passed on the Dawson version, and it wasn't available on the Combs version. I'd like to see the steal be more like the Combs version

This is very much akin to the set of circumstances that caused the show to simply do away with the option during the Combs era... a move many Feud purists cried foul over at the time.

What's that old saying... the music may change, but the song remains the same?

Passing isn't the best choice on Family Feud, and people have done it. I haven't seen it on the Harvey version yet.

Passing has never been a good option, because even if you don't think your family will be able to get most of the answers, by Playing, you're only giving the opposing family 1 chance to steal an answer. If their answer is not up on the board, you win the points anyway.

So the only time passing becomes effective, is if, let's say, there are 8 answers on the board, and the other family only gets 1 or 2. Then you've got 6 possible answers to steal from.

But that's a huge risk to take, passing a question with that many answers, because on the flip-side, if the other family gets 6 of the 8, then the chances you'll be able to successfully steal one of the remaining answers is extremely low.

I can think of at least one time a family passed on the Harvey version. The question was something like, "Name something associated with "David Hasselhoff" and Steve was laughing at the girl at the face-off because she, her family, and Steve himself didn't know anything about Hasselhoff and they had to play the question.

I have seen families pass a few times, and Harvey always reacts negatively in some way....one time saying "we'll have a chat during the break" to the passing family.

passing was only a good option when the 1 strike rule was in place.

I see a family member pass about once every three episodes, or about two times a week. Passing has sometimes worked out well for some families, especially a question with 6-8 answers.

Earlier this week the 8 am Dawson version showed a family passing two straight rounds--after the second one Dawson said to them "you flew all the way here from Chicago; don't you want to play the game"?

I'm realizing that you should never pass on a survey, where the survey only has 4 or 5 answers. It has to be more than six, because otherwise with 4 answers, a family could easily sweep the board.

But passing usually doesn't work for the family who decided to pass

Steve said something similar as well. He said something like "I don't understand why people come all the way here and then pass".
