I think he'll retire after the 30th season. That's what he said last year. If he does retire, the only one I could see taking over for him is Jeff Probst. He hosted Rock & Roll Jeopardy as we all know from 1998-2002 on VH1 and did a pretty good job with it. He seems like a logical choice because he is the only one in this current generation with experience hosting some form of Jeopardy! or any other quiz show for that matter. He would be a good replacement, I wouldn't mind him. Other good choices would be Tom Bergeron or maybe Meredith Vierra. It would be interesting seeing a journalist like her host Jeopardy!, if she steps down from Millionaire that is.

It will be very tough though if he does retire because someone will have BIG shoes to fill. It might take some getting used to if that happened, but I think it could work. I think by now, people have adjusted to Drew Carey as host of the Price is Right. If people could adjust to him, I think they'll adjust to someone else. Next thing you know, Pat Sajak could retire one of these days. I would say in about 5 years from now, everyone of the modern classics will have a different host.

Anyways, I am not surprised Alex Trebek will retire soon. He's hosted game shows long enough. His game show resume dates back to the early 1970s, if I recall. I think it's soon time for him to go, as he had a wonderful run not only hosting Jeopardy!, but also Classic Concentration and many others.

Ah, but there is one big difference between Bob Barker leaving TPIR and Trabek leaving Jeopardy. You said people had time to adjust. Truthfully, the network affiliates had no choice but to air it and let people adjust since its a CBS Network show. The affiliates couldn't just say "We think this is going to suck. To heck with you we are going to air something else!" Jeopardy (and WOF) are syndicated, so affiliates can choose to walk away if they want. What we'll see is whether people watched for the game and the host was just the guy they saw when they watched or if the hosts and a connection to them kept people tuning in all these years to watch that game. In many cases when big stars leave a TV show, it fails. Not always, but a lot of times. Happens in radio too.

It wouldn't shock me if Trabek does retire to see some syndicator roll the dice and remake/startup another game show or two, attempt to do it correctly, and see if they can finally put a chink in the WOF/J armor.

It is important that they chose the right replacement. Jeopardy! more than any other show depends on the host. You got to read 61 answers flawlessly. Roger Lodge might be a good idea, but I don't know how he'll handle this and Survivor. The Jeopardy! he hosted on VH1 surely wasn't as many episodes.

I hope that Alex has some input on picking his replacement.

Judging from the tiny article, he sounds bored with the show. I think Probst would be a good replacement based on his work for Rock and Roll Jeopardy years ago. Ty Treadway would be another good candidate based on his work for Merv Griffin's Crosswords.

I've heard about this story and to me if Alex Trebek does retire from Jeopardy it would be a really sad day in game shows indeed and not only would Alex Trebek retire from Jeopardy but Johnny Gilbert would go too as well. If I could pick a replacement for Alex Trebek I would go with Anderson Cooper or Sean Hannity because not only are they smart journalists but their experience in news and journalism would be perfect for hosting Jeopardy and as for Johnny Gilbert's replacement I would choose Harvey from Double Dare because he would do great. But no matter who's the host Jeopardy will always be a game show favorite,

Count me as one of the people who has still not adjusted to Drew Carey as host of The Price Is Right.

It's hard to get used to new people hosting classic game shows.

For me, I always associate hosts with the game show, so when a host changes, it's hard to get used to the new one, unless right from the get-go, they do an amazing job at hosting it.
