Umm, this is still GSN, right?
Admittedly, I don't really care about the music to this show, and I expect them to cater to advertising (most networks do nowadays). The format is the key. I have a bad gut feeling the glee most have about a Pyramid revival will quickly be quashed when/if we see the actual gameplay.
But, do we know who can host it?
I didn't think the Engvall Lingo theme was bad either - it was at least somewhat catchy, and in line with the electro-rock feel of the previous themes. I'd actually say it was one of the better things about that revival. Baggage has a decent theme as well, but I couldn't even begin to remember what the current Newlywed Game theme sounds like.
As far as Pyramid themes go, there's really nowhere to go but uphill after the Donnymid theme. It would be nice to hear a remix of the classic theme - even the theme from the Facebook game would do. But really, I'm mostly concerned with the format, writing, judging, celebrities, and host. If they can get those elements right, then I can forgive an unmemorable theme song or a not-so-attractive set. The previous Davies-produced pilots seemed to at least get the format right from what I read, so I have a good feeling.
Michael Davies is producing it?
GSN did a great job putting Baggage and Lingo together, but The Newlywed Game completely changed themes in 2011. Before we had the one with the turning set for the first four seasons with the announcer. Then, they changed the music, announcer and set, and overall with their somewhat low budget, they did a good job. Over the course of 2011, GSN had seven different originals on the air, while other years they typically have 3-4. Shows like Love Triangle, Improv and Lingo took budget away from The Newlywed Game
i'm also assuming that the rules are going to be like the classic 80's version where you have to get 7 words in 30 seconds or the 2002-2004 Donnymid era with stricted as heck rules and you have to get 6 words in 20 seconds.
also with this version have the Mystery 7 and 7-11 boxes from the 80's version or the Super Six boxes from the 02 version?
I'm looking forward to recording it already and imagine what the categories will be.
