well he was the original host who made the show popular right also i was talking about picking a few of the selected episodes from 1994-1995 season but i was saying it might a problem due to the same contract with TPIR from 2000 that's what i was talking about.

Let's stop jumping on a GSN tribute right now. I'm sure GSN is going to do something with Family Feud of course, and hopefully Match Game next weekend or sooner

Good idea. Let's hope for the best.

I would think they would have to; I think they did for Brett and Charles when they died. (They had something for Don Adams, and he was on MG only a couple of times) And I agree with you about the music channels and Dick Clark. They still haven't done anything about Robin Gibb or the Bee Gees since he died recently, either. But Whitney Houston and Donna Summer got some attention on VH1 Soul and Centric.

VH-1 Classic airs the Soul Train documentary it seems like once a week. One of the channels, can't remember if it was MTV or VH-1 finally got around to a Whitney Houston tribute at 11:30pm the night she died. As far as the other celebs I think they did nothing for Dick Clark which talk about a slap in the face of rock music that was it. It isn't like no one can get their hands on Bandstand. VH-1 ran 30 minutes versions of the classic shows for years in mid to late 90s. I don't want to hear from anyone about music clearances. They aren't as big an issue as some people around here make them about to be. It's possible they dont't even need to clear them and it was taken care of in contracts to appear on the show when they first aired. And if it is necessary and some acts are a-holes about it, you do what GSN did with MG episodes where a celeb wont clear the appearance and you don't air it. Plus, it's a day or two of episodes, not the whole series. And as I already said, the shows aired in 1996 forward. If they werent an issue over 20-30 years later, they aren't going to be now. Robin Gibb and Donna Summer if they did nothing for is also embarrassing. I dont have VH-1 Soul so I wouldn't know or see what they do.

GSN has to show some respect for Richard and his friends and family somehow.

well with the way they cheapened a tribute to Dick Clark with a small Pyramid Marathon they probably will do that to Richard Dawson aswell with a small Family Feud Marathon, but you never know!

The tributes on MTV and VH-1 for musical legends this year have been largely disappointing (and MTV was the one that had the ridiculous hour-long only Whitney tribute riddled with technical difficulties that ended with a cold toss to Jersey Shore, VH-1's was a little longer), but music clearances for TV reruns can be problematic. Look at WKRP in Cincinnati for instance. It's been decades since that's been seen with all of its original music intact. And some shows on DVD are a mess because of this.

One would have hoped they'd at least tried to clear some Bandstand shows. Or maybe the contracts for the 30-minute shows they have expired? If so, they should have probably looked at how Soul Train was done if they really were having problems. A certain number of shows were packaged out of the run to channels like Bounce and Centric, and all of them are completely uncut. So I think it can be done.

As for Richard Dawson, I'm thinking there will be something (and there should). If taking their time means for a decent tribute when it's all set and done, then I'm all for it.

And CBC in Canada had no problem with airing WKRP in Cincinnati episodes with the original copyrighted music intact. I remember seeing the beginning of an episode with Earth, Wind & Fire's "After The Love Has Gone" being played. That aired on CBC in August 1993. Not sure if Canada has such strict clearance laws with music like the US does.

    What's a cold toss?

From one thing to the next with nothing in between. Instead of airing, say, a final "in memoriam" graphic with a pic of Whitney, after the final music video of hers was shown that night in MTV's short "tribute", it was fade to black. Then bam, Snooki. No graphic, no ID, no nothing.

There's no contract problems that any of us are aware of. Just a matter of the 94-95 version never having been all that popular for GSN to justify spending (more) money on it.

Like a few others have said I'd expect any tribute to consist of what GSN already has licensed right now. Be a miracle if anything else was included. Anything "rare" would more likely turn up on Youtube.

So, that's what it is. Disrepectful to Whitney's family, don't you think?

Whitney deserved more than that 'tribute' anyway.

Well considering it is Family Feud, maybe GSN will make a 20 hour marathon out of it

Now, Dick Clark only had a two hour marathon, which is actually better than I thought because

    1) We got to see some of Donny's Pyramid with Dick Clark
    2) I thought they would only leave it to the Friday night block

well eight years ago back in October of 2004 GSN aired a Halloween episode of a 1 hour-long version of Family Feud from guess when... 1994 with guess who... Richard "flipping" Dawson and guess what... i enjoyed it so who knows what GSN might be pulling up from their sleeves this time for a marathon tribute to Dawson.
