    1 year ago.....

Engvall's Lingo went on the air. Nothing much changed a year later. Just 40 episodes and that's it. It was not mentioned in this year upfronts. Does that mean the show is cancelled?

I thinking that they unceremoniously cancelled, byt you never know until they find out.

I'm assuming at this point, but it's really too bad. You never know, considering it still airs on the network in reruns and does well. It did well in new runs at 8pm, and a year ago today we had a $100,000 win (third episode).

I simply don't get why GSN cancelled Lingo in 2007. We could have had 15 good seasons of Lingo by now if GSN made the right moves. Woolery Lingo became boring, but they could have changed a lot of details with the game play. GSN's dumbest cancellations have been with Lingo now.

Someone should send Bill a Twitter message or Facebook post and see what he says about Lingo

And I don't get why GSN cancelled Whammy!, Friend or Foe?, Russian Roulette, or Chain Reaction, unless those got bad ratings, which I thought they all had fair ratings. I hear GSN cancelled those when they transitioned to "GSN: The Network for Games".

Basically, it's safe to assume there will be no new episodes done at all. Frankly, though some things were fine, the game got too stupid (for lack of a better term) which turned off many Woolery Lingo fans immediately. If GSN hadn't lost confidence so quickly, it could've tweaked their issues and had a good second season. Too bad.

I don't know about Friend or Foe and Russian Roulette, but Whammy! could have lasted for a few more seasons, and Chain Reaction could still be going today (or at least for years) if GSN make a better prize amount, and put it in a good block after Lingo

It would have been interesting to seen how Woolery's Lingo would have done with a couple of things from Engvall. Specifically the 5 words $100,000 bonus game and also playing the front game for cash.

All of those save Chain Reaction were cancelled to make room for those reality shows that bombed.

What should have happened that instead of cancelling Lingo in 2007, raise the prize to $20,000 in 2008, then $50,000 by 2010 with Woolery still as the host and a newer set, but I doubt Shandi would stick to Lingo that long, and then by now Woolery probably would have left the show and we would have gotten Engvall with the 100K top prize, and we'd see how it would have gone from after 2011. From 2002-June 2011 that would probably get us up to about 13 seasons.

Lingo has been GSN's greatest success, along with Whammy!, The Newlywed Game, Baggage and Catch 21. GSN has made a mistake in the past with cancelling certain shows

Agreed. To win the jackpot in Woolery's Lingo was pure luck, exactly half as difficult as selecting the winning case in DOND (1 in 13 vs. 1 in 26). That the $100,000 was won only twice on Engvall's Lingo is a testament to the level of difficulty for the level of contestants' intelligence.

And people complained about that too. It's very difficult to win that prize. The show makes it difficult to win the $100,000 too. For every 40 episodes of the old Lingo, not a lot of people won the top prize.

It was won twice, and I would have probably won it 3-6 more times had I been on the show. (I know, graduating Magna *** Laude from college is a disqualification for being a contestant on a GSN Original. LOL)

It's not possible to be a repeat contestant on Lingo

Which is not a bad thing. For $100,000, it should be brutal or GSN would panic. People here thought GSN was giving that prize money away because you only had to guess 5 words. We all saw those results.

At this point all we can hope for is that with the rerun cycle still continuing and hopefully still doing well, that GSN will eventually reconsider their cancellation decision (if there was one to begin with.) Bill made Lingo the best it's ever been. I've never laughed as hard as I did with those clues. It disappoints me to see his version end so quickly. PLEASE GSN bring on a second season!!!

Melyssa didn't say it was. She just said that, if it were, she could've aced the bonus round that many times.

    But thanks for reminding us.
