    The 3am Hour

This came up on another thread recently.

The 3am hour (Eastern) has always been the lowest rated hour of the programming day. Even sometimes Dawson Feud at 8am beats out The $25,000 Pyramid and Super Password at 3 and 3:30am. Millionaire of course has almost no point of airing on GSN anymore, since Regis' episodes have been run down. Regis' Millionaire is now 10 years old, and getting rid of it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Paid Programming brings in money for GSN, which could help out a little bit. I know this isn't too big of a deal, since it's 3am Eastern/12am Pacific. I don't think it's that big of a deal for the programming day to end an hour earlier then now, even if it is as early as midnight on the West Coast. A lot of other cable networks have 8-9 hours of Paid Programming in a day anyway.

    Monday-Friday
    2:00am: Jeopardy!
    2:30am: The $25,000 Pyramid
    3:00am: Paid Programming
(no same day repeating of P+ and SP)

Saturdays: Same as now (Newlywed Game and Baggage 12am-3am; no Catch 21)

    Sundays
    1am hour: The $25,000 Pyramid
2am hour: Family Feud (Karn then O'Hurley)
    3:00am: Paid Programming

I think GSN should just fill the 2-4am with modern programming because, those shows right now from 2-4am are just the same episodes from earlier in the day. Wouldn't hurt to do something like this:

    2:00am - Lingo (Woolery)
    2:30am - Lingo (Woolery)
    3:00am - Family Feud (Dawson)
    3:30am - Match Game

Something LIKE this, not exactly this. I just put Dawson Feud and Match Game there because they're pushed to early in the morning. But modern shows can't hurt.

I feel Lingo is more of a daytime show, and I always liked it with Card Sharks in the 3am hour. Match Game late nights wouldn't hurt, but ending out the programming day with The Newlywed Game and Baggage wouldn't be a bad idea, since they typically do well latenights.

Maybe on weekends Baggage and The Newlywed Game is good late nights, but doesn't mean it would do good on a weekday. Lingo is more of a daytime show, but hey, Engvall Lingo airs at 1:30am and that seems like a heavy show that late. Card Sharks in the 3am hour bombed if I recall. Don't remember for sure.

I think anything will bomb at 3am, and Card Sharks actually did bomb. I like the "Jeopardy! and 25K Pyramid" combo to end the Mon-Fri programming day. $25,000 Pyramid (and 100K Pyramid as well) got good numbers at 2:30am when it aired there in the past year.

I like that if I miss the morning episodes of P+ and $25k Pyramid, I can catch it at this time, but I would be willing to see another Classic in this slot just to mix things up (Maybe Classic on weekend and Modern on weekday nights). But I'm not a fan of commercial programming. Especially when a game show can pull in 25,000 viewers at it's lowest in this slot, compared to almost certainly less viewers during the overnight period. The sponsors are the same, they just air during commercial breaks rather than an entire half hour.

How would we be able to find out how much GSN is earning for these commercial programs, and how many viewers actually watch. It would be interesting to see if there are more people than I actually think watching.

I am a night owl living in Denver, where GSN's programming schedule ends at 2 am. I have been a very loyal GSN overnight viewer since April 2005 when while channel surfing I noticed Ronald Reagan on What's My Line. I love the 12:30 to 2 am lineup of P+, 25K and SP, which is the networks strongest overnight schedule since removing What's My Line and To Tell the Truth 3 years ago. One more thing didn't GSN remove its west coast feed?

I know what would do well in the 3am slot: What's My Line? and Password!

    I better keep dreaming

I don't think anything's going to get high ratings at 3 am.

Personally, I've always thought Black and White programs, or infomercials, should be reserved for late-night broadcasting. Then again, maybe I'm just old-fashioned...

You're not just old fashioned. Black & White shows did well if I recall when GSN brought them back in December 2010 or 2009 for a week, they did it last year it didn't do so well I don't think. But probably because it was the same episodes seen before and people just already seen them perhaps. Just a guess.

I wish GSN would reserve Black & White programming for 2-4am instead of showing the same shows from earlier in the day because there are people who enjoy Black & White programs. I'm old fashioned to.

I actually like what they used to do in the past. (3-5am = 3:00-3:40am / 3:40-4:20am / 4:20-5:00am) It allowed us to watch B&W shows, and with the extra commercial space it brings in more ad revenue.

I heard they used to do that. I wasn't with GSN at the time but I would've loved that. That was when GSN was smart. Usually, I don't like when times are staggered, like on TV Land, but I wouldn't mind it at all during the nighttime hours for the Black and White programming.

    Bull****

Match Game is nearly 40 years old and has been run down. Get rid of that.
    Same thing with Dawson Feud.

I vote for DWTS at 3am. It would put their contract finally to use.

FAIL. Other shows can do better than that bomb of a show (on GSN that is).

Keep it as it is. Yeah it has awful ratings, but it is a late time. Plus the encores of the 2 Password revivals and $25,000 Pyramid and Jeopardy! is great.

Plus a new seasons of Jeopardy! and the $25,000 Pyramid along with the NBC Password revivals in between is a great way to end the day.
