Good Job on the grades so far. I wonder if Casey would grade it....
Past Videogame Marathon champions: Michelle Wie, Rob Cesternino, Marie Digby, Quentin "Rampage" Jackson and ijustine.

I'd give GSN a solid B so far.

I really like that we got a new season of Newlywed Game / Baggage. Harvey Feud is GREAT on GSN. The afternoon schedule is good now with Whammy/Chain Reaction back at 3PM, and the Catch 21 Hour at 4PM. Also the fact that Dancing is gone from the regular schedule now is a major plus... and the fact that we're finally going to see some new originals in a couple months.

My main dislike is the block scheduling and the weekend schedule after 1PM in general. I also dislike the removal of Power of 10 and 1 vs 100 from the schedule.

GSN gets an A simply for all the Dick Clark Pyramid marathons in primetime. I also like the cutback of Deal or No Deal and the removal of Newlywed/Baggage from the 6PM hour.

Agreed. 1 vs 100 and Power of 10 had more variety to the afternoon schedule. On Saturdays from 1pm-1am right now, the three shows that are are DOND, The Newlywed Game and 7 hours of Feud. Then on Sundays, three shows air from 1pm-1am, which include DOND, Feud and 5th Grader. So even if we don't get Power of 10 and 1 vs 100 back, weekend afternoons need variety from 1-5pm. Otherwise, Saturday and Sunday nights are rating-winners

Sherri and Jerry gone in the 6pm hour is no huge deal for me, but we have a new season of The Newlywed Game coming soon, and I wonder where/when that will air. The Newlywed Game should maybe have a primetime slot at 7pm in new runs, with Harvey as a lead in.

Despite the somewhat OK ratings, I still like Clark in primetime. I think it would be great right now if GSN aired the $100,000 Pyramid in the 10pm hour, so we don't have same night reruns

I can't believe I'm saying this but I wait for the day GSN fails from the abuse of Family Feud, and other shows because it has happened with networks before I imagine because they rerun something into the ground. Do people really wanna watch 3 days a week, 10 (Including the 12:30-1am episodes on weekdays) hours of Feud, Plus on weekends (correct me if I'm wrong) And if I recall, 4 (Including the 11pm slot) more hours on Sundays? That's just overkill. Think about it.

GSN is doing fantastic off Steve Harvey's version, I guess they could live on that until he fails, but gee, that would be a terrible day considering GSN didn't air it wisely. Maybe when they got more seasons that would be a different story, or when and if he quit.

And do people wanna watch 24/7 a day Dancing with the Stars? That was just overkill and people probably could remember the winners if they've watched it before. People probably wouldn't mind it if it wasn't in block scheduling, because a show like that isn't meant for block scheduling I don't think. But hopefully we don't have to worry about this kind of crap returning to GSN. Thank god.

And, for The Newlywed Game, GSN should just lay off that I think and not air it on Saturday at Midnight. I'm cool with 3-5pm for some airtime on Saturdays, but I think it would get old watching the show every Tuesday in block scheduling and people probably already seen the episodes. Some people probably haven't seen Wilson's The Newlywed Game, why not air that for awhile on Tuesdays? Shepherd's version can be limited to just Saturdays at 3-5pm ET, it wouldn't kill them. Then from 12-3am or something, Put in some Catch 21 and Baggage in those slots.

GSN is doing a good thing with Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? I think. Only having that in block scheduling on Sundays and nowhere else all the time. But eventually GSN's going to have to put it at maybe 2pm on weekends maybe.

And, for Million Dollar Password, it's getting a bit old. I would say the same for Deal or No Deal but Deal has a few seasons to air. Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (Philbin) is past it's prime on this network, but it would probably do fair in the Noon hour on Saturdays. It doesn't deserve the kind of airtime it gets. GSN should try getting the 10th Anniversary episodes from 2009 even.

GSN should also put Woolery Lingo at 9am on weekends instead of Password Plus I think. It could do slightly better maybe. I like Password, but to some people it's just an old classic.

That's all I have to say I think.

I know. Don't get me wrong, I love Family Feud, but people will eventually get tired of it. But not for awhile, as you said.

To what phimat37 was saying in the long post, I don't think GSN is going to give up Family Feud, anytime. Like, ever. I could see Deal or No Deal leaving GSN between now and the next three years, but Family Feud will continue in production past its renewal date of 2015 in syndication, and GSN will acquire those episodes.

And at this point we're not going to have that 25 hours a week of Dancing with the Stars anymore. Eventually, I could see DWTS returning to a one or two hour block on a weekend somewhere, or in weekend latenights, but they're not going to be any abuse of it, just low ratings.

I'm very satisfied with the way GSN is treating The Newlywed Game. Sherri only has 18 slots a week, and 95% of those slots are Tuesdays and Saturdays. Otherwise, we have none of The Newlywed Game on Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays. Sherriwed pulls good numbers on Saturdays, and pulls strong numbers for latenights after the 7 hour Feud block.

Eventually, GSN should acquire some modern game show, and air it Sunday nights. We're seeing that Sunday is a highly rated night for modern acquisitions. Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? is still pulling strong numbers, mainly above 400K. But eventually I could see it getting moved into late afternoons on weekends.

Million Dollar Password still gets strong ratings at noon, always well above 200K and sometimes close to 300K, amazing for that time slot, and only 12 episodes produced.

And the weekend morning 9am slot is a waste anyway. Originally, I thought of Lingo instead of Password Plus, but P+ has had higher numbers than Jeopardy! I like the idea of classics on weekends, and I don't think Woolery would do very well that early.

How do I grade GSN this year? Below the Phillies, to whom I would give a D. Yes, GSN gets a big "F" for Family Feud overload and the Failure known by the acronym DWTS, along with the destruction of Match Game, showing just the same 25% of the series.

At this point, I would want Dawson to leave unless he gets a new lease with a better timeslot, otherwise I don't care. I want Match Game to stay, even if it is in the 8am hour. If Match Game leaves, then my grade for GSN would drop from an A- to a solid B.

    C for me.

Positives: Harvey Feud added, Password returns, new episodes of 25k Pyramid
Negatives: DWTS (still lurking in the background, could return permanently), proposing five new reality shows, way too much Feud shown, Card Sharks gone, Dawson Feud and Match Game getting way beyond stale.

That still hasn't happened yet at least (the reality shows). It was proposed, but it's not a major con of the first half. But PRODUCING those shows may be a major con towards the second half of the year.

Million Dollar Password is such a smart, exciting, high-energy show that I can't imagine why it failed. I actually look forward to seeing it every Saturday morning even though I've seen each episode maybe six times each! I really think they should bring this show back. It's fantastic!

That was CBS's choice to cancel Million Dollar Password. Lately GSN has been driven by word association games, including Lingo, $25,000 Pyramid, and the Password revivals. Now, of course we have Million Dollar Password on weekends, which got 233K this past weekend at noon.

Million Dollar Password should have lasted more than 12 episodes, and same goes with Power of 10. (MDP more so). But Million Dollar Password was spread out too much. Too many time-wasters, too much chit-chat. A half hour syndicated version would have worked better, or in the hour version having three games per half hour, instead of two
