1997 Pilot of Pyramid with Chuck Woolery

Wow. I never knew about this. Here, here and here are some photos.

Just from the looks of it, I'm glad this version of Pyramid didn't make it to air. Woolery is of course a great game show host, but the whole set looks...simply different, and I wonder what the gameplay was like on this.

And what's up with the 6 people sitting in Pyramid squares instead of just a flip board like in Clark's version or electronic computers in Osmond's version?

Here were the rules to the Pyramid revival in 1997, and then another, much different revival in 1996. The people at the top sitting in seats, where all six of them formed a Pyramid were called the "Pyramid Players." Seems more like Match Game.

That was from the 1997 pilot for Pyramid with host Chuck Woolery. The format largely stayed the same, with guessing seven clues within 30 seconds. Winner goes to the "Final Pyramid" (instead of Winners Circle) for $10K and then $25K total. The only giant difference was that each category was represented by a different celebrity, called "Pyramid Player". So whenever you chose a category you chose that celebrity. Other than that and the look, it was the same as always.

A pilot with Mark L Walberg was shot in 1996, but that format was radically different than the established. No video or photos of that have been seen, as far as I can tell.

So from part of the description it looked like we had six celebrities per episode. Seems like a lot, and even too much for this celebrity-driven game show.

This now makes Donny's Pyramid look pretty good

Oh, dear God. That does not look like Pyramid. That looks like some Nickelodeon-type kids game show.

The set to me looks too roomy. Dick Clark's set wasn't cramped, but this is too...wide open

Yeah, that too. Even Donnymid's set looked better than that.

Donny's set didn't look that bad. The Winner's Circle wasn't as far away as Clark's version. It was closer to the players and Donny's "PYRAMID" podium.

I wish GSN would have the flips boards for the categories other than the digital computers, but I doubt that will happen. It would be cheaper

Donny's set was cool, I admit that. I wouldn't mind seeing trilons on GSN's version either, but knowing Sony...

SONY...oh of course. TV screens it is. If it were totally up to GSN, I wish GSN would have the flip boards.

I remember reading the reviews to this. What a hot mess.

Curious what the 1996 version was like. It was suppose to be worse. No pictures exist of the set anymore I'm hearing

Oh yes, it was worse. Do yourself a favor and look up Randy Amasia's review of it.

It's also tough to find any set photos, and a variety of rules for the 1996 revival, compared to the 2009 revival or even the 1997 Woolery revival. No pictures exist, and Alex Davis' details are sketchy from Buzzerblog.

^^^I can see his review, and he probably made it sound worse than it was
