I saw the review too... what is it with game show producers messing with classic formats like that? That year alone we saw no less than three failed "revamp" pilots for Pyramid, Match Game and Card Sharks (and the latter two even eventually made it to air later on, with some changes).
"YOU ON FAMILY FEUD! THIS AIN'T A COMEDY ROUTINE!"

Perhaps you should practice what you preach, Steve.

The Pyramid Players were the worse part of the 1997 Woolery revival. The 7 out of 7 in 30 seconds stayed, but that waas the only part of the format that stayed

Aside from the shiny black floor, that 1997 pyramid set look terrible.

Well, the Pyramid Players you saw contributed to the set looking bad. Even if it wasn't for that part of the set, it would have been way to wide open

Interesting to read this old alt.tv.game-shows thread about the abortive pilot. Includes a long post by the late Randy Amasia. Another poster talks about the "GSN debacle"...in 1997. (This was in the middle of the dark period.) Fifteen years later the "debacle" has somehow endured. And Lord knows people still complain about it.
