    GSN announces Pyramid revival

Hey everybody, if you go to the GSN corporate link on the web page, they just announced that they have set a date for the Pyramid revival. It will premiere on September 3rd at 6PM EST/5PM CST. It will run 5 nights week from Monday-Friday. I can't wait to see the revival. I hope Mike Richards does a good job hosting it and that they don't tinker with the game too much. I'd like it to resemble the old set from the 80s version.

I can see this news in spreading through the forums.

Once again, a very good original and a very good time slot, probably after Feud and back to back with The Newlywed Game. The description sounds very retro. From late August to this in September may start a bunch of schedule changes, after a quite/no news with schedule changes since mid-June

As long as this version has trilons, a ticking clock, a similar set and tuning up (even a re-recorded version) it will work. The 2009 pilot was PERFECT, different enough, but not TOO different. Don't change your brand too much, it would be like buying a box of cheerios and finding fruit loops inside, both made of oats, both round, but similarity ends there.

I wouldn't call the 2009 pilot perfect, or even THAT close to perfect. But the 2009 pilot was better than the 2002 revival, and then forget about the 1996 and 97 revivals. GSN should take care of The Pyramid well, and so far there are a lot of similarities, yet great changes in the gameplay

I'm sorry, I couldn't help but laugh at that.

I think certain things like the set and the theme are what is iconic about the show, and they kept with that in 2009. And the ticking clock and trilons are important in that they create tension and excitement. People are tempted to go with the gadgetry of computer screens on the big board, but the physical action of the boxes turning is needed to create excitement. It send a little jolt through you every time you watch the box turn. And the clock. The absence of a ticking clock is a total killjoy, you desperately need that to heighten the feeling of suspense. They had the clock in 2009, it could have stood to been louder... but at least it was there. I think the neon light on the 2009 pyramid was a nice change, a little more modern, yet still cool looking.

Well of course GSN is going to feature computer screens instead of the boards like they had in the Clark era, but at least GSN isn't going to mess up the format and set like with Donny's Pyramid.

Here's a good story I found on why even hardcore classic game show fans should give this 2012 version of Pyramid a chance:

^^^Just looking at the rules and the set, and even Mike Richards it seems like is resembles Clark's version. I'm sure classic fans are going to give this one a chance, and stick to it, unlike what happened with Lingo and even 1 vs 100

BuzzerBlog has their set report up. As has been mentioned, the set still retains a lot of its classic look while appearing modernized at the same time. (I agree with Alex that the set reminds me of the treatment given to the new UK Blockbusters.) The big change is that the main game and Winner's Circle pyramids are now represented by monitors, but they are shaped like pyramids and are said to have displays resembling the original trilons, so that should be cool. Also, they are using the 80's theme music.

Gameplay-wise, there's a few minor changes but it stays pretty close to the recent pilots, and it's still 7 answers in 30 seconds as in the classic versions. Celebrities will include Yvette Nicole Brown and Danny Pudi from Community, as well as Dot Marie Jones, Oscar Nunez, and Nick and Aida Turturro. I can't say that I personally am too familiar with any of them, but that's probably more of a reflection on me than on the show, as they come from several high-profile recent TV series. I'm more concerned about how well they play the game, and have to admit that Chad's report on that doesn't seem too encouraging. That along with the writing (which was said to get "mixed reviews") are my main worries for this version. I have no problem with the set or the format, and I think Richards should be at least competent as a host.

That's going to be the worst part of this remake to me, the no retturning champions. GSN must have seen a big enough casting call where they just wanted to move on from two contestants to the next two.

Then we have the set. On the new commercial it looked a lot different to the point where I liked it, but instead of a red/yellow color scheme I wish it were different shades of blue and even purple as seen in the photo.

There are actually a couple celebrities on this version that Ive heard of, and a couple of them have been on hit, long running shows like The Office. As expected, the celebrity guests are weekly, but not daily. Donny's Pyramid I believe would have had more production money for a daily switch of celebrities. Alex mentioned that a couple of Winners Circle rounds were bad, but we'll be seeing them on TV most likely. They just can't be cut out, and hopefully it won't drive too many viewers away.

Last comes the tie breaker round. To me the "infinite" tie breaker rules are good since there's no confusion on the number of seconds left for the second team, and of course there has to be some type of difference in the main round from the classic version, so this is it

I just saw the commercial for The Pyramid, and I get how the electronic board works on The Pyramid now. This is VERY cool. I like how its not all the little TV screens like on Donny's Pyramid, and I knew there wouldn't be manual turning.

And they have two of these on the set, one small one for the main game, and a big one for the Winners Circle

Not really a big fan of the idea of not having returning champions, but that's a small quibble. I'm betting that's so GSN can rerun the show in whatever order they feel like it. Everything else looks really nice though!

I love Yvette and Danny on Community. I can't wait to see them play. Very excited for this!

That's a good reason why we don't have returning champions, but remember GSN is just airing the show, not producing it. So who knows why we don't have returning champions afterall, but maybe its for the better

The clip also has the familiar doot-doot--doot flute sound effect for the clock so maybe they also used that (and maybe the cuckoo?).
