Network Daytime Game Shows Summer 1972

This is the famous line up on those Network Daytime Game Shows during the Summer of 1972 just weeks before the return of CBS Game Shows including The New Price Is Right. This list is in Eastern Time Zone:

10:30 - NBC - Concentration - With that longevity this game show now hosted by Bob Clayton was still going strong.

11:00 - NBC - Sale Of The Century - By this time the second host of its original run was hosted by Joe Garagiola. It may have gotten top ratings but this game show was still holding on its own.

11:30 - NBC - The Hollywood Squares - This Peter Marshall classic was the Number One Game Show in America with all its fun and zaniness.

But now the competition starts here........

12:00 - NBC - Jeopardy! - This original classic hosted by the late great Art Fleming was still going strong with its fast paced hard quiz style.

12:00 - ABC - Password - This updated and stylish classic returned and so did Allen Ludden. It was competitive to Jeopardy! and looked more fashionable with their set.

12:30 - NBC - Who What or Where? - This hard quizzer was hosted by the late great Art James. It was a hard quizzer but it was rather easy going compared to both Jeopardy! and........

12:30 - ABC - Split Second - This ultra fast paced hard quizzer can only be done by Tom Kennedy and he was the right man for the job even if the show at times would outpace Tom Kennedy, himself. Fast paced, high energy, and the winner could go home with a new car!

1:30 - NBC - Three On A Match - Two late great legends can associate with this game show. The producer was Bob Stewart and the host was none other than Bill Cullen. It was a decently fast paced true or false quizzer which had a respectable run as it entirely went up against............

1:30 - ABC - Let's Make A Deal - Monty Hall, Jay Stewart, and Carol Merrill were the head honchos of this legendary game show with all the prizes, zonks, and fun! Funny then as it is now!

But the competition ends here with.........

2:00 - ABC - The Dating Game - Jim Lange was still doing this original run of this game show for seven years and it did not look like it will come to an end.

2:30 - ABC - The Newlywed Game - Bob Eubanks was still having the laughs, jokes, and all the fun as it was still going strong with the original run for six years.

So there you have it! Comments and corrections are more than welcome here for this post! Have a great week everybody!

Daytime TV is like that now, only with talk shows.

Also, the debut of "The Joker's Wild" September 4, 1972. Technically still summer. Who would have thought "The Price Is Right" would still be on the air and starting 41 seasons?

Was this around the time that Lin Bolen was shuffling Jeopardy! around in different timeslots to decrease viewership?
"YOU ON FAMILY FEUD! THIS AIN'T A COMEDY ROUTINE!"

Perhaps you should practice what you preach, Steve.

Nobody probably, not 41 years at least, but I think people in the 70's knew it would last for a while with Barker. The show to me had a good premise and gameplay, even though many things about the gameplay have changed since then.

Another example is The Newlywed Game, or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Who knows back when they premiered they would have had the success they had

September 4, 1972 was, is, and will always remain a true historic date in terms of game shows. CBS came back with a vengence on daytime game shows with those two game shows mentioned as well as Gambit.

Hopefully you wound up at least being a winner! This game show could had gone on with Bob Clayton even with his untimely passing. At least Jack Narz was good when he started the revival for syndication in September 1973.

This one is in reference to that contestant on NBC's Concentration in July 1972!

Nope...it was Kids Week, I was playing against an Eagle Scout--in uniform--and he solved the puzzle very quickly. I think there were 4 matches revealed. I did get the ome game, a puzzle book, and the World Book Encyclopedia--which I sold some 30 years later for $ 200.

Concentration. truth be told, I wasn't on long enough to have any off-camera interaction with Clayton. Seemed like a pleasant enough fellow.

Like Hugh Downs The Original I bet that Bob Clayton was equally well distinguished and a nice respective gentleman to all the contestants including yourself!
