Okay, what is the secret to getting on the Wheel of Fortune Leaderboard? It used to be mainly based on the envelope prize you get in the bonus round, but now you get the standard $1,000 like you do in cash games. I have no clue how these people are managing to get scores like 19k and 20k! Any ideas? Suggestions? Comments?
i got a score of 21,000 yesterday, and i got that score from landing on the 2,500 piece a few times and having a bigger puzzle with lots of letters to fill in. I dont know how anyone else does it.

Yeah, it does seem that almost always after you land on a $2,500 spot you DO get the bankrupt... but sometimes you don't. I also noticed a lot of bigger puzzles when I was playing this time. My highest game was only $17,000 but I can see how it's absolutely possible to score big. It takes a lot of luck on this game... just as much (almost) as skill in solving. If you're good at the game but you don't get the big-money spins or a big puzzle that has the potential for a big win, then you won't get those huge scores you see at the top of the leaderboard.
Like all of the games, *patience* is the key if you want to get on the board...waiting for those elements to come together: luck and skill. And remember, it's definitely harder to get high on the board because of the promo being played this weekend. A ton more people will be playing this than normally do.

** Just saw your post, sassy, it went up while I was typing. I DO remember that tip you gave. And while I haven't done the "enter, escape" to GET down to 1 spin (because I'm a little fuzzy on how that works) I did remember and when I was naturally down to one spin, I never solved it early if I knew it... because I remembered how you said it wouldn't land on Bankrupt or Lose a Turn. Great tip!
I'm wondering why you don't just exit out entirely when you see a puzzle that is too small?
Its been my observation that if you hit x and go back to the leader board page it takes longer than by my method which avoids the leaderboard page. I could be wrong though. Both ways work. BTW hitting the enter escape etc basically is solve, cancel solve, etc which if you don't know the puzzle wastes your spins. but if you know the puzzle, its the quickest safest way to get down to 1 spin. you can also click the solve, cancel buttons on the screen alternating but my way is definitely faster. When you're playing, after you've made two matches in succession, these penguin trophies appear on the right side of the screen. If you move your mouse over them, the clock will stop. But it starts up again after you match two guitars, so try--if you can-- to make a match of one pair of guitars before you stop the clock... then, if all goes well, you can play and won't need to make that second match of guitars (thereby re-starting the timer) until you are near the end of clearing the board.
Oh!!! I played a game where I noticed the clock stopped and I got a great score! I thought it was just a glitch. But I do remember putting my mouse over the penguins to see what they said the trophy was for. Thanks!!
I also do what others stated - my goal is to get at least 18,000 so, if the puzzle isn't very big, I exit to get another puzzle. This can be time consuming since it seems the majority of the puzzles are small; I sometimes play or pass 30 to 40 puzzles a day. Even with a large puzzle, you need to hit $2500 to get a really good score. My best score was on a puzzle "one potato, two potato, three potato, four" - I hit $2500 and used the t for a score of 28175 which I think is my best ever - still waiting to break 30000.
And thanks for your explanation, Sassymmmm. I remember reading this when you posted before but forgot and couldn' find the post again. There have been several times I've had a big score but then hit bankrupt and I was annoyed with myself that I couldn't remember how to get down to one spin so I was very happy to see this again.
It really is a kind of breakthrough when you realize that if your goal is to get on the leaderboard, you shouldn't waste your time on games that absolutely will not get you there. I do this with my favorite, Mahjongg Alchemy. I know what I need for each round to get a high score. Again, there are "lucky" boards that are "dealt" to you and some that are just duds. If I don't have what I need after the first or second round, I quit the game and reload another. There are five levels in that and it's a 15-minute game... so it's definitely a timesaver to do this.
Of course, the worst is when I have an awesome game going and think I'll be scoring big UNTIL I get to the fifth and final level and it's a dud. That always makes me mad!
And the fact that they made the leaderboard an extended one and I now get about 2,500 less oodles per week because of it, I don't even need to play for hours like I used to to achieve a high score because if the difference is now only 15-25 oodles, what's the point?
**Oh, and you're welcome, love2playnindy. Your scores will be much higher using this trick (assuming you can clear the board). Toy Chest is another game where you definitely have to be dealt a good set-up. Some of those configurations are so difficult. But, at 10 oodles per game, I do finish those out just for practice.
