Beat the Chefs Cast Celebrities announced

    Press release here

Looks like GSN is going all out on another original. Season three American Idol contestant Matt Rogers will join Chefs Beau MacMillan, Antonia Lofaso, and Jeff Henderson, who the contestants will compete against. The two judges for the series will be Christy Jordan and Brad A. Johnson. Each of the chefs have been featured on cooking reality shows including "Iron Chef America", "Top Chefs", and "Worst Cooks in America". Both judges have been critics and have judged other competitions in the past.

Celebrities Eric Roberts, Cristina Ferrare, Julie Powell and Melissa Rycroft will also appear on Beat the Chefs as guest judges. Now, it looks like each episode will have two returning judges, and one guest judge

Beat the Chefs premieres on August 23rd at 9PM Eastern, following the series premiere of American Bible Challenge hosted by Jeff Foxworthy

Guess it's because I don't watch cooking shows...but the only name I recognize above isn't even involved in the show (Foxworthy).

Well Matt Rogers was on "Idol" in 2004, and then Eric Roberts, Cristina Ferrare, Julie Powell and Melissa Rycroft are all guest-celebrities, not chefs I believe

Hollywood Junket gushed about the show, as I posted on the blog (with a photo of the show's pro chefs)...

    Eat this up

Confession: I don't like to cook. But I did like Iron Chef, more for the goofy Japanese fake-mythology than the actual culinary art. GSN has decided to try a down-home version of those cooking battles in Beat the Chefs.

Hollywood Junket got a reporter into one of the show's tapings, who proceeded to give the project a rave review. "Beat the Chefs is a guaranteed winning show that I predict will be perhaps the network’s most successful show yet! And I mean extremely successful." Um, okay. GSN's audience has usually not received offbeat shows too kindly over the years.

The premise for the cook-off is simple. Amateur chefs in a homey kitchen try to whip up better food than professional chefs Jeff Henderson, Antonia Lofaso and Beau MacMillian, who work in a state-of-the-art restaurant setup.

As with Iron Chef, the judges decide the winners with a taste test at the end of the show. The two permanent judges are food experts (so I'm told) Brad A. Johnson and Christy Jordan. Each week also brings an amateur judge, like reality starlet Melissa Rycroft. The host is Matt Rogers of American Idol notoriety.

This is a risk for GSN, no doubt. We're not talking about a quizzer or word game here. Will GSN's viewers decide this project belongs on Food Network? We'll start getting the answer on August 23.

    .
I'm not positive about this review. The reviewer probably doesn't know too much about GSN, or its viewers/demos. From the review, this would be a great show for Food Network.

Beat the Chefs I do expect to do well for GSN. It may perform a little weak compared to American Bible Challenge, but Beat the Chefs has no reason to bomb. It has a great timeslot on a night where not too many other new shows air on the major networks (yet). On some level, 'Chefs' is a game show, and even has some popular guest judges connected to the show.

So from what I've seen (and now heard) this would be a hit for a cooking channel...but for GSN? Let's wait and see

That was not hard to predict. I'm not sure how GSN's audience will respond to this show, but there was never any doubt on how folks around here would react.

I know it's just one review, but at least it's a good one. Beat the Chefs is a GSN original, and so far looks pretty good.

A cooking show does not belong on the Game Show Network, but I'll see the first episode to see if I like it or not.
Not changing this until GSN acquires Supermarket Sweep. Started: 7-22-2012.

Like I said, Beat the Chefs is a game show on some level. A contestant is playing against a celebrity chefs for big bucks, $50,000 I believe. This may not be a traditional game show like The Newlywed Game and The Pyramid, but it's not "Pure Gold" or "War of the Rose Sisters" yet
