    Beat the Chefs commercial

Just at the end of Harvey Feud, the first commercial of Beat the Chefs aired. It featured the set, which on the Beat the Chefs website we saw one side is the "Home Kitchen" and on the other side is the "Chef's Kitchen". At the end of the commercial they show the judges table, which is basically set up as an American Idol/America's Got Talent judges table.

The narrator of the commercials just says the basic information about the show "It's Culinary Chefs against Average Joes"

    ------
Personally, I hope this and American Bible Challenge do well for GSN. They both look really good, probably the best hour-long originals GSN has produced in years (forget the 2009 ones). But, the method GSN is using for programming these two originals is horrible. In one week the same episode of Beat the Chefs will repeat 6 times in a week, and 'Bible' will repeat 8 times that same week. GSN has done this with these hour-long originals before, and it hasn't worked.

But, as long as the 8pm and 9pm slots on Thursday pushed numbers above 400K, these shows aren't going anywhere.

I saw both of them as well. Curious to see if these commercials keep showing up.
Not changing this until GSN acquires Supermarket Sweep. Started: 7-22-2012.

On this commercial I didn't see a "Game Show Network" text under to GSN logo

And I'm guessing it's the only one in the bunch never to have "Game Show Network" under the GSN logo.

Good. And I hope it stays that way for other commercials promoting Beat the Chefs.

True. We'll see when they start promoting The Newlywed Game's new season if they have that text under the ads, though NG is a traditional game show.

Why? Because you don't think it's a game show. I don't blame you, it's not a traditional game show. But on some level, it's about competition and gives away money.

If Beat the Chefs is the show this year on GSN that is the least closest to a "game show", then we're lucky.

I agree, but by the same token, it's not a game show, so I'm happy they are not trying to push it off as being a game show. It's a reality competition cooking show.

Beat the Chefs to me passes as something very close to FOX's two shows, Masterchef and Hell's Kitchen. But they eliminate contestants per show, while this is one group of contestants ("average joes") competing against the pros. It's a mix of a game show and a reality competition cooking show.

Beat the Chefs isn't reality to me. But only numbers will tell if its good enough for GSN...

I just saw the commercial, and I have to say it passes as "Reality, Cooking". It reminds me of one of the Food Network shows that I wouldn't watch. Something like Chopped.

I'd hate to judge a show before I see it, I don't do this often, but judging by the commercial, it's trash for GSN. This would be a better show for Food Network now that I've seen the commercial.

This type of cooking show I didn't really have in mind. I wouldn't mind something where there are rounds where you cook your best dishes and you get points or money for it in each round, and then there's a final round or something. Just something that wouldn't be as trashy or look as trashy. That would fit for the Game Show Network.

Again, Beat The Chefs, I think is a show for Food Network the way it looks in the commercial and the setting.

I do agree that 'Chefs' could be better suited for Food Network. But I wouldn't call this "trash" for GSN. Beat the Chefs isn't your traditional game show, and does reflect the reality side of television. But on GSN we've had "Chuck Woolery: Naturally Stoned" and "Carnie Wilson: Unstapled". Those were trash, along with the five other reality shows mentioned in the March upfronts.

If this original is GSN's worst show here in 2012, then we're lucky. I could probably sit through an hour of this on GSN rather than a half hour of "Pure Gold"

One question. Is this going to be one of these shows where the chefs say "THIS ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH" or something? You see what I'm saying?

Because if this show involves that crap, definitely count me out. But chances are I may not watch anyways.

Sure, I would guess so (I wonder what side of the kitchen that would come out of). But I agree with your points. Its leaned more towards reality than game show about 65/35

I also saw that same commercial of Beat The Chefs and from what I saw of the preview I think GSN was trying to copy Iron Chef and The Next Food Network Star and what I think will happen is that Food Network will sue GSN for stealing their show and copying it. But I think the one thing that will make Beat The Chefs a hit will be Matt Rogers as the host and with his expertise I think he will be a great star in the cooking world and a singing career in shape. As I was familar with Matt Rogers from my American Idol cd he sings awesome but he will have a chance to showcase his other talent cooking. But let's hope for the best when August 23rd comes around,
    Vinnie

For a show like this we just need a good host, which it looks like we have. But I'm not sure what cooking experience he has.

This show didn't look that good to me (then again, I don't watch Hell's Kitchen and similar shows, so take that for what it's worth). The concept isn't bad, but it's a catch-22 (if the pros win, then we would say "Oh, no surprise there"; if the "joes" win, then it's "Who the heck are the pros? They stink!"). The set is average, and why the heck would you hire someone who doesn't (appear) to have anything to do with cooking to host? Couple that with the heavy rerunning, and this show is already in trouble.
