    GSN August ratings

Rating averages for the week of July 30th-August 5th have been released. GSN ranked 39th in primetime and 41st in daytime, with a 306K/239K average (primetime/total day).

This week seemed to slump for GSN, considering we got 5th Grader on Thursday nights, and then Minute to Win It and Harvey Feud producing successful numbers two more nights. Possibly Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays crashed. Daytime did poorly too compared to the months of June and July. We'll have to see what happened when Douglas posts the original slot numbers. Also, the Olympics could have caused part of this

I felt like it's time to go back to having one big thread for ratings each month, like we used to, only those threads covered months of ratings and hundreds of posts

From the ratings post on the blog...

TVNewser posted their usual cable ranker, and the Olympics hurt GSN along with lots of other cable networks. But the damage wasn't horrendous, as the network averaged 306K/239K viewers prime time/total day for the week of July 30-August 5. Not bad by GSN's historical standards. The network ranked 39th and 41st in the windows.

At least GSN didn't drop to anywhere below 40th. No matter what GSN has always been ranked around there, and for this cable network that's still a pretty good average.

But, I just assume right now Friday night bombed

I have a feeling $25K Pyramid's Friday night blocks are numbered. They are likely getting very close to the tail end of the new lease of episodes on Friday nights (assuming they leased around 200), and likely once they run through all the episodes, they'll probably put something else on Friday nights. Although, you never know; $25K Pyramid has lasted much longer than I thought it ever would in primetime so far.

First 25K Pyramid started out with four other classic shows on Friday nights, then back The 100K Pyramid on Friday nights (basically the same show). Then...ugh, Dancing with the Stars, back to 100K Pyramid then 25K Pyramid since April. The "classics" have been the longest running block in block scheduling since its start since November. Million Dollar Mondays are gone. The Newlywed Game and Baggage Tuesdays and Wednesdays are gone. Thursday's block of Deal or No Deal is gone. Friday has been changed up a couple times, but still features classic shows.

Come September, no matter how many/little episodes are left in The 25K lease, it's gone on Fridays. Why? Because it's extremely doubtful GSN will air their new version at 6PM, and then the 1980's version from 7PM-11PM the same night

Thankfully, I have no interest in the Olympics. Guess I'm part of the small viewership of GSN's audience that week.

Small? The Olympics usually crash major networks. FOX just shows reruns of shows like Hell's Kitchen, MasterChef and 'Dance'. GSN may have got lucky. And that average is still decent

    GSN Ratings July 30-August 5

    http://sonofthebronx.blogspot.com/20...s-are-all.html

Looks like the Olympics definitely hurt GSN, along with other cable networks, but not too much. There were still three airings above 500K, that includes 19 slots above 400K.

Family Feud (Harvey) takes 13 out of the top 15 slots. Minute to Win It's 7PM airing on Tuesday nights gets 6th place (491K) and Baggage takes 15th place at midnight Wednesday (409K). Minute to Win It, Baggage and 5th Grader get a few other slots going down to the top 30, along with several O'Hurley Feud slots.

Dawson Feud gets the lowest 4 slots of the week. Dog Eat Dog's highest slot of the week landed at 109th place with 236K. All other Dog Eat Dog airings received below 200K.

Daytime and block averages coming up soon....

5th Grader did about what I expected: okay, but not great. It might pick up a little once the Olympics are over, but it's still considerably below everything besides $25K Pyramid on weekdays. Maybe they should put 5th Grader on Fridays once Bible and Chefs debut.

Not surprised by the mediocre-at-best numbers for Dog Eat Dog. I don't see why this show deserves a spot on the schedule over 1 vs. 100, Power of 10, Millionaire, Deal or No Deal, Weakest Link, Greed, or Twenty One. I don't even care for DoND, but objectively speaking it's a much more noteworthy show, and was doing at least a little better on weekend afternoons. Honestly, I get the impression that they went with Dog simply because it was cheaper than renewing or bringing back any of the other shows I mentioned.

GSN at the moment is better off without Dog Eat Dog. This was a bad time for them to acquire it. In the daytime spots it airs, Deal or No Deal was better off Saturday afternoons, and then Sundays that could be one of the two weekend repeats of 'Bible' and 'Chefs'.

GSN got lazy with 1 vs 100 and Power of 10. Those two shows should have been renewed for another year in reruns. I remember Power of 10 doing pretty well with 18 eps. 1 vs 100 did poor early in the day, but Im sure could have done better a few hours later in the afternoon

Yeah, that wouldn't be a bad idea. 25k Pyramid just doesn't get good ratings on Friday nights; heck even some 3 am episodes get better ratings. I'm wondering if they are still showing it Friday nights because they are still airing the new episodes in the season they got a few months ago. Maybe they will remove it once they get through all the episodes. I don't know, but this could be a reason why they continue to air it. What do you think? I don't think it'll be that much longer until they get through all the episodes. We'll have to wait until more PDF schedules are released to find that out.

It's not the matter of them getting through The 25K Pyramid current lease from 19whatever-, the biggest reason why classic Pyramid stays on Friday nights is buildup (with a small audience) to the new version. It would be kind of bad to just replace The $25,000 Pyramid Friday nights with the new version premiering in just weeks.

What's probably going to happen is that once the new version of The Pyramid premieres, that week there will be another show Friday nights, who knows what but hopefully a classic

Nah; they'll probably put the new Pyramid in there by the week after its debut. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if it's there the week of its debut. It's just the GSN way; beat that horse into the ground before it even gets started.

I've given that a thought, and I wouldn't be surprised if The Pyramid airs Friday nights 7-11pm.

But with five episodes the first week and eight slots to fill, pretty bad idea. Also, 'Bible' and 'Chefs' repeat at midnight on Fridays until 2am. Another bad choice.
