GSN Greenlights 'The Family Trade'; new reality show premiering in 2013

Here comes one of the five reality shows, or "real-life games" stated in the upfronts from this past March. We've seen two of the classic revivals, and two out of two "shiny floor games" come to the network.

The eight episodes of The Family Trade will become one of the half-hour reality shows, based at a car dealership/repair place in Vermont run by a small family, hence the name. This business will take anything valuable to trade for money or car parts.

So right now, let's not complain about how "reality" Beat the Chefs is. At least 'Chefs' resembles a game show, and without the massive reruns has the potential to do well.

So should The Family Trade be on another network? NO. It's simply a bad setting/storyline for any type of reality show. So it defintely shouldn't be on GSN

    From the blog...

Meanwhile, GSN plunges further into reality with some car dealer show. It's called Family Trade, and I know I shouldn't prejudge, but it sounds incredibly lame. Apparently a car dealer accepts weird stuff in return for cars and trucks, and his son and daughter have to sell the weird stuff. The project arrives next year, which looks like maybe ten years too soon.

Yes, and they're all bad, especially for GSN but even for a network that features mainly reality shows.

    When will GSN learn

Why in the hell is this going to be on GSN, when it's better suited for truTV or Spike?

TruTV I can see it doing well on. Spike: Maybe. GSN should sell all their reality ideas/pick-ups to other networks.

Just in case you were wondering....
No mention about their upcoming reality show anywhere on their website. You would think, even after the March upfronts they'd have it mentioned somewhere.

Anyway, a site like that doesn't mix with GSN

I had this horrible dream that GSN was going to try reality shows again. Boy, I'm glad it was a dream.

Wait... it's really happening? Are they really that dumb? I guess they are if they are allowing this to happen again. They just do not learn do they?

I can tell you the only good news about this is that there will be (only) eight episodes, I say eight too many. The show will probably get massive reruns throughout the schedule like 'Bible' and 'Chefs', and like Instant Recall will get the lowest rated slots of the week in reruns. It will disappear off the schedule in the matter of less than three months

At this rate, it makes the block schedule idea look like a masterpiece.
Not changing this until GSN acquires Supermarket Sweep. Started: 7-22-2012.
