I like how you completely ignored the second part of my message.

And for the record, I'm not "lowering people's hopes" or "not being optimistic" as much as I'm telling how I see it. Look at GSN's current direction. Do you really think that they'll be willing to shell out for Reg Grundy projects? If this had been 10 years ago, I could see it happening.

Perhaps you should practice what you preach, Steve.

I was told earlier not to lower that user's hopes.

Pfffff....I'm not going to say that its defintely going to happen, but for ideas that sound a little unreal I have to say something back but nothing harsh

I've kind of wondered if Moonves would be more open to syndicated reruns of TPIR. I doubt it, but I wonder if that'd fly. Plus, no idea how many stations would be interested....which might be a good selling point for getting him to agree to it.

If it has just been on CBS for 40 years, it will probably be on CBS for another 40 and never in syndication

I've regretfully come to accept the fact that classic game shows have kind of gone the way of the dinosaur, and networks, even GSN, are going to just continue to show less and less of them as time goes on. GSN's philosophy basically seems to be focusing on originals and new acquisitions (i.e. Fifth Grader, MTWI, Harvey Feud) to boost their primetime ratings (and we have seen much success with the aforementioned shows), and relegate a few obligatory classics to the daytime and early morning where ratings are most likely going to be substantially lower regardless of what shows are put there. We should even be grateful that we got to see a new season of Clark's $25K Pyramid, in primetime nonetheless, even if it was more or less a covert ploy to advertise their new version.

Most likely true. Grundy's shows have sort of faded into oblivion (except among die-hard game show fans) and would likely have a narrow audience pool to grab from. I can't see GSN jumping through hoops to acquire a couple of old shows that more than likely won't do diddly squat for their ratings or demos. Shows like Supermarket Sweep, on the other hand may be a different story. I think Sweep is a show that is still widely known and is liked by a broader (and probably even younger) audience, so I certainly think that it could work on GSN in an early afternoon slot or such. Remember Sweep's ratings were constantly admirable on its respective networks; its demise had to do more with changes in programming philosophy on Lifetime and PAX.

But as the years go by, it seems like the chances get worse for shows like Supermarket Sweep coming back to TV as well.

I'm seeing that this is going to happen in the next few years, and GSN is probably going to show modern shows earlier and earlier, like we've seen happen massively since around 2009. Next thing we know Karn/O'Hurley Feud will probably take up the whole morning. But I'm hoping this won't happen. A lot of posters here, and other viewers would be massively upset if pre-1990's shows disappeared from the network, and the earliest show on the network would be Karn Feud, Lingo and Dog Eat Dog

If that were to happen, I will be kissing this forum goodbye in no time, though in a peaceful manner. I'm sure a lot of users will as well.

So will this page on GSN Forums. It would be gone, or deserted

    Methinks you're being pessimistic.

People, times have changed. The demand for "classic" game shows is declining. I don't think the definition of "classics" is going to change. How far into the past does a show have to be before it's defined as a "classic", anyway? Twenty years as of today? I just don't believe that you guys are going to walk out of here swiftly.

For now I would consider it pre-1990's, so yes 20 years. Just the picture/video quality was a lot different compared to later 90's game shows. But pre-1990's shows aren't bombing on GSN. Everything right now from 10am-11:30am does pretty great, and Match Game does fantastic early mornings for that slot. Get some new classics (Card Sharks, etc), and pre-1990's shows would continue to do better.
