Too much Deal or No Deal

Is anyone else tired of seeing Deal or No Deal on GSN all the time? Seems every time I tune in, that show's on again!
What happened to having some more variety in the game shows that are aired? Even if they are reruns of old shows, like Lingo (which is my all-time fav), it would be better than Deal or No Deal.

Syndie DOND has already lost all but one of its weekday slots. The network version will lose its 7:00 PM weekday slot and may lose its 11:00 PM weekday slot when Drew and Wendy debut in April. The network version also lost a couple weekend slots recently. A major cutback for Deal or No Deal is happening.

I agree. Deal or No Deal is losing steam for sure, and is getting some trimming for sure. I bet the trimming will make way for when Drew's and Wendy's shows debut. As I always say, fun to watch at first, but after that it gets prehistoric fast.

It got old sometime in 2009, IMHO. I had a bit of a gut feeling that it would be Howie and Carrie Ann who made way for Drew and Wendy and Engvall. Syndie DOND has been struggling for quite some time now.

DOND wasn't doing bad at all in the latest published week, December 20-26. Syndie DOND averaged 323K for its fifteen runs, network DOND 282K for its 13 runs. Hardly terrible numbers, despite massive rerun abuse. My guess is that the show will eventually turn up in the morning when GSN cuts back the pre-1990 hours. But for now GSN is giving the show some rest.

DOND numbers aren't bad....if you think 323 is good for prime time. DOND at 282? Wow,,,,Does beat some shows. Like Poker. Has Poker cracked that 300 number lately? Got to be that 240 and the demo play. Yeah, that's the ticket. DOND in the morning. Probably at 9 AM.

Here's an obvious fact. If GSN wants to cut back the classics, won't matter what the ratings are. If GSN is dead set on putting rerun abused Howie and Baggage on during the morning, they are going to do it. Just think it's funny some posters think it's a cause and effect situation that the classics are depending on Howie in the schedule. Truth is, if GSN wants to keep classics on, they will. Has NOTHING to do with DOND, Baggage, Carey or any other GSN acquisition/original. It all depends if GSN wants to kill off the CLASSIC FAN BASE or keep it. That is all.

Deal or No Deal is still performing well, but GSN is putting Love Triangle and Improv in front of Deal. It doesn't mean Deal or No Deal is done just yet. However, I see it being cut down just to its weekday daytime slot and a couple of times on the weekends in April.

I didn't mind watching Deal or No Deal for awhile but, ENOUGH is ENOUGH. Nowdays, newer shows it seems get only a couple seasons like Deal or No Deal and 1 vs. 100. If GSN aired classics more and give shows that have had rerun abuse a rest, They might get good numbers on the classics. Heck, I say air Deal or No Deal, 1 vs. 100, Chain Reaction, Lingo, previous Catch 21 seasons and The Newlywed Game (Wilson) in the morning hours Mon-Fri. Those shows have had rerun abuse enough in the other slots.

If this was a build your own schedule thread, I'd make a schedule with this. In fact, I'll create a thread with a schedule.

Kind of interesting that DOND has gotten at least decent numbers throughout its runs on GSN with virtually no prime time exposure at all. It's been months since it had a single prime time slot, and it never had a regular weekday prime slot.

So it wouldn't surprise me to see GSN use the show in a low-rent zone like weekday mornings sooner or later...just as one-time network dominator Millionaire now gets a late night slot (which not so incidentally used to be reserved for pre-1990 shows).

Of course, everywhere except in the most hardcore precincts Regis Millionaire would now be considered a classic itself. If you look at GSN's early schedules, a lot of the shows now called "classics" had less age on them than Regis Millionaire does now.

And I remember the same complaints on these boards about Millionaire overuse that we now hear about DOND.

Crossposted my comments on this thread to the blog, with a screeshot of - what else? - a suitcase on Deal or No Deal.

Millionaire is not a classic. Although unlike DOND at least it is a good game show.

"Classic" is an empty non-title. Anybody can call anything a classic or not a classic. I've seen 2004 Jeopardy eps called "classic" on these boards.

Of course, by usual teevee standards Regis Millionaire isn't just "classic", it's paleozoic.

Millionaire will probably be considered a classic at some point, but it's not there yet. It does merit something, given that it's 1) an actual game show, and 2) the one that really set that big-money bar of 6- and 7-figure big wins. And I like Regis as a host, personally. WoF and J! are more in the classics vein (alongside TPiR), given that they've been on for 25+ years, even though they're still airing (so maybe more like "modern-day classics"). Some of those newer episodes will be well-remembered in the future, such as the Jennings run, and the woman who solved the puzzle with one letter on the board. But I have to say that the ones that are widely considered true classics at this point are in the vein of Match Game, Password, Hall LMAD, Concentration, Marshall Squares, TTD, TJW, anything with Cullen, Dawson Feud, the Clark Pyramid shows, G-T panel shows like WML, IGAS, and TTTT, and the like.

Like I said, it's a non-title. Nobody can offer objective criteria that define a "classic" game show. It's all subjective. When Caitlin Burke's WoF episode, which aired a few months ago, starts getting the title, well...

That's why I use "pre-1990" in these kinds of discussions. That's an objective measure. No matter what anybody says about Caitlin's episode, we know it's not pre-1990 and it will never be pre-1990.

Not that I don't like Caitlin. She even sent me a nice e-mail about my blog.

Of course Regis Millionaire is old by TV standards because most TV channels are centered on NEW Material. But a true retro or Classic (as in old stuff not best of its kind) would not be playing Millionaire. It's way too soon to be calling it a Classic.

I personally think it is too soon to call shows from the 90's a Classic like Comb's Feud. But at least that it is much older than Millionaire or Deal or no Deal.

And as for what people called Classic at the start of this network well I wasn't there so it doesn't mean I would agree with them.

edit: And whether I call Millionaire a classic or not I am not saying it doesn't belong on the network (same with DOND which I dislike but I am not saying get rid of it completely). I just don't think they should completely take the place of the older game shows just because they are as you say "old by today's TV standards". Just because they seem relatively old by these standards doesn't mean that is a fair trade for Classic game show fans.
