    New ratings: September 3-10

    http://sonofthebronx.blogspot.com/20...-3-9-2012.html

New ratings have been posted by Douglas. And clearly, Labor day saw some impressive morning ratings all day. 100k Pyramid went all the way up to 372k viewers. Even Jeopardy! got an impressive 366k number, considering its at 11:30am. Pretty much all the morning shows did well that day. The boost started with Password Plus at 9am. And this should show why the morning shows normally don't get high ratings (look at the other days this week) - people are at work/school. Well, look what happens on a day when people have off work/school. IIRC, on Labor day last year saw above average morning ratings as well. Although the Pyramid hour in the mornings still got good ratings throughout the week, even though Feud at 9:30 took a steep dive the rest of the week. And clearly, Whammy! is not for long at 12pm - the one day boost was again, Labor day.

Other then that, Feud, The Pyramid, Bible were on top. Also Minute To Win It as well. Friday night did very well with the new Pyramid.

Good points.....nice to see the classics in the AM having a great day when people were home to watch them .Even 25 K at 3 AM had a very nice rating Wed (240K)..
ABC held its' audience on thursday debut from week 2....solid ratings again for GSN.Good for Goldhill.

    Monday did Great!

The Pyramid seems to be a hit, very good ratings in all of it's slots.

Catch 21 at 4PM did great all week except one day only had 207k. There was a low 300k, two high 300s, and even a 400k. Next week that slot goes The Newlywed Game, which I also expect will do fine. Maybe Catch 21 at noon would do good, since it does really well at 2PM also. Whammy at noon has to go, but it does fine at 3PM and even had a nice 462,000 viewers on Labor Day.

5th grader is really helping the 1PM hour. All over 200 except a 300 on Labor Day. I think that number will continue to increase.

Here are the weekly averages for 8 AM to 6 PM, listed in order from best to worst. I also included averages for Tuesday-Friday, since a lot of the shows saw unusually high ratings on Labor Day.

    6 PM The Pyramid (Richards) - 519K (Tue-Fri: 487K)
    6:30 PM Family Feud (Harvey) - 506K (Tue-Fri: 502K)
    5:30 PM Family Feud (Harvey) - 422K (Tue-Fri: 406K)
    3:30 PM Chain Reaction - 382K (Tue-Wed/Fri: 355K)
    5 PM Family Feud (O'Hurley) - 346K (Tue-Fri: 343K)
    3 PM Whammy! - 348K (Tue-Wed/Fri: 310K)
    4 PM Catch 21 - 341K (Tue-Fri: 324K)
    4:30 PM Family Feud (Karn) - 330K (Tue-Fri: 324K)
    2:30 PM Lingo (Engvall) - 300K (Tue-Wed/Fri: 267K)
    2 PM Catch 21 - 293K (Tue-Wed/Fri: 268K)
    10:30 AM $25K Pyramid - 270K (Tue-Fri: 253K)
    11 AM Super Password - 265K (Tue-Fri: 250K)
    10 AM $100K Pyramid - 254K (Tue-Fri: 225K)
    1 PM 5th Grader - 238K (Tue-Fri: 214K)
    11:30 AM Jeopardy! - 235K (Tue-Fri: 202K)
    9 AM Password Plus - 200K (Tue-Fri: 185K)
    12:30 PM Lingo (Woolery) - 198K (Tue-Fri: 154K)
8:30 AM Match Game - 191K (Tue-Fri: 200K - Monday was actually the worst showing)
    9:30 AM Family Feud (Karn) - 183K (Tue-Fri: 160K)
    12 PM Whammy! - 155K (Tue-Fri: 116K - ouch)
    8 AM Family Feud (Dawson) - 83K (Tue-Fri: same)

Very cool to see the Labor Day ratings boost - makes me wonder how the current morning/early afternoon schedule would fare on weekends. And beyond that, it seems like the (unofficial) end of summer is causing an increase in daytime ratings. Jeopardy!, 5th Grader, $100K Pyramid, $25K Pyramid, and Super Password all averaged above 200K from Tuesday-Friday, and the latter two were at or above 250K. And after a bit of a slow start, it looks like 5th Grader might be worth keeping around at 1 PM, though it still did worse than the Pyramids and Super Password in the morning. Something definitely needs to be done about the noon hour, though.

Of course, it's nice to see Pyramid have a great first week average AND perform solidly with its Friday prime time repeats, with several showings in the overall top 20. The top 20 was bookended by Jeff Foxworthy (Bible Challenge at #1 and 5th Grader at #20), with the rest consisting of Pyramid, Harvey Feud, and Minute to Win It. What can I say, GSN has a new slate of smash hits here.

And for the 4th time in a row, Bible stays on top while Chefs zones into the bottom 100. I think it is time for Chefs to cancel.

    Weekday 7-10 PM blocks:
    Monday (Family Feud): 409K (Karn 358K, O'Hurley 461K)
Tuesday (Minute To Win It): 504K
    Wednesday (Harvey Feud): 448K
    Thursday: 462K (Harvey 382K, Bible 942K, Chefs 300K)
    Friday: 476K (MTWI 468K, Pyramid 480K)

    Weekend 6-10 PM blocks:
    Saturday: 256K (Bible 239K, Chefs 105K, O'Hurley 315K, Karn 396K)
    Sunday: 356K (5th Grader 423K, Bible 350K, Chefs 233K)

All in all, this is probably the most consistently good prime time week we've seen in a while, at least as far as weekdays go. Every weekday block averaged above 400K. Repeats of Bible Challenge and especially Beat the Chefs dragged down the weekend averages, though. The latter show is really bombing in repeats, and often drags down its lead-outs as well. Even the 300K for the first-run is hardly that impressive, especially considering what it follows. Bible continues to do huge numbers in first-runs, but its ability to stand up to rerun abuse is declining: the Friday midnight and Sunday 7 PM runs got 319K and 418K respectively, but all the other runs got sub-300K numbers. I'm also wondering if Harvey Feud is starting to erode a little: its 448K average for Wednesday night is certainly nothing to sneeze at, but it's lower than we've seen for that show recently, and not the highest prime time block average for this week. If this trend continues, they might want to cut the show back just a little.

Still, overall a great week for GSN. The block scheduling has finally paid off for them - they just needed to find enough shows that worked. Thank Steve, Guy, Jeff, and Mike for that.

A lot to say about ratings this week...

    From the posts above

Some incredibly good ratings on Labor Day. TVNewser has not released the weekly averages yet, but from the Labor Day numbers I'm sure they're good. Some fantastic ratings from 9am-4pm on Labor Day, with mid to high 300K numbers for the pre-1990's and Jeopardy!. Whammy! also gave us some very impressive numbers at noon. The 3pm hour lit up with 462K for both Whammy! and Chain Reaction. That led off to the fantastic "Pyramid" premiere number, and then a great O'Hurley primetime block.

Everything else from my post above...

Whammy! takes a new low next to Dawson Feud as the lowest rated spot of the day. 25K Pyramid is the best rated classic this week, and Super Password is a very close second. The rest of the afternoon did hot.

For the new originals...The Pyramid does well all five days a week, then Friday night it proves itself well in reruns. The Pyramid also gets 285K (12pm) and 243K (12:30pm) Sunday afternoon. Beat the Chefs basically does horrible everywhere. I find it that Beat the Chefs doesn't do well. It's not reality, but at the same moment, it's not traditional and is heavily argued if it is actually a game show. But, the show is worth getting picked up by another network, even a major cable network like the Food Network. It's a great show, but not for GSN.

American Bible Challenge does alright in its two latenight reruns (Thursday and Friday), then the Saturday slot does very weak, which affected 'Chefs' horrible number. The Sunday slot at 7pm does a lot better with 418K, and the Sunday 10pm slot does 'OK' with 282K

It's great to see The Pyramid doing so well. Interesting that its Sunday ratings are basically what I remember as being typical/comparable for $25k Pyramid to get in those slots though...

I remember The $25,000 Pyramid doing decently on Sundays. It was sad to see it leave weekends I have to say, or at least should have kept the noon hour, while The Pyramid could have taken some of the primetime slots, rather than Beat the Chefs' 10 reruns

As I said weeks ago, if people don't keep it on GSN once Bible has ended, whether it be the next show or the next day then, GSN failed in some sort of capacity. It's nice that Bible gets 900k+ plus, I don't see the viewers sticking around for the other shows GSN has to offer, especially that unfair cooking show.

Not even The Pyramid? Kinda have to figure that in somewhere, too, don't you think?

The Pyramid does well, I expect The Newlywed Game to do well in new runs, and Beat the Chefs by far isn't bombing. For GSN standards it is surviving.

And if all else fails, more Harvey Feud

Chefs just pales in comparison to Bible Challenge (that's as nice as I'll be to that show). That still doesn't bode well for it, though. If its ratings drop below 300k, then it's not coming back.

And you're probably right; if it leaves, Steve takes the time slot.

This is when I wish that

    A) GSN would acquire syndie Millionaire
    B) It would be a hit
    C) It would cut back on the unnecessary Feud slots
