    Classic Rock

Does anyone on here love classic rock? Are you a fan of the 60's,70's,80's or 90's? What band did you like growing up? I like talking about it and you can too come and talk about bands, songs or singers on my classic rock blog. I encourage you to come to http://greatclassicrock.blogspot.com and be a part of the conversation. If you want to buy some music come to my blog and check out the stores.

I like Classic Rock. Whether it be Jethro Tull, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, Loverboy, Prism, Gerry Rafferty (R.I.P.), Bruce Springsteen, The Doobie Brothers (before Michael McDonald turned their sound upside down), Heart (one of their songs heard in a series of current Swiffer commercials as this post is made), The Guess Who, Rolling Stones, Yes, Genesis, or whatever, I do enjoy classic rock. I even have my classic rock radio station play just after I go to bed. There are some cases when my classic rock radio station may play REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling and I truly consider such group more pop than classic rock.

Though during the daytime, I prefer more upbeat stuff, such as disco, 80s, and even the modern pop and the music that many people call (c)rap. But don't get me started on how much I hated the music of the 1990s. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and other such grunge acts turned my taste for music upside down - at least until 2002.

I like all kinds of music (except country and rap). I'm a huge Beatles fan, but I also like stuff like Three Dog Night, Queen, the Eagles, the Who, Genesis (particularly Peter Gabriel-era), and even some things that blur the line into Punk/New Wave, like Blondie, the Clash, and Talking Heads.

As for grunge...I can't quite wrap my head around a group like Nirvana being considered "classic rock." They were popular when I was in high school, and I don't like to think of myself as *old* quite yet LOL!

60s through 90s, it's all good. Well, not literally all...but it's hard narrowing it down. Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Animals, Zombies, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Doors, Black Sabbath, Queen, AC/DC, Cream, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Dire Straits, Def Leppard, Guns N Roses...I mean, you can easily come up with a solid best-of compilation (or two) for any of these bands.

Police, Talking Heads, Ramones, Clash, U2, REM, INXS, Smiths, the Cure - I guess people are considering them "classic rock" now, though there's a stronger link to alternative/modern rock. Anyways, I love all that stuff.

I'm partial to 90s music, probably as I was coming of age at around that time: loved the "big 4" grunge bands (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains) and other groups who peaked around that era (Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer), as well as a lot of the British acts that came along (Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Radiohead).

Since nobody mentioned the Moody Blues yet, I'll toss in their name as one of my own personal favorite "classic rock" acts. Of course, we can't go wrong with The Fabulous Beatles, either.

Yeah, I've noticed you like the oldies music like I do. I listen to all kinds of music to but love oldies. Big Beatles fan here to.

I listen to Classic Rock to. On weekends I listen to a station around here called 96.9 The Eagle sometimes. I got a wide variety of music I listen to.

I listen to literally almost everything...from 1910s-1930s stuff like Bert Williams, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin, and plenty of classical and Broadway, to Big Band/Swing/Jazz (Benny, Glenn, Louis, The Duke, etc.), to newer music like Fitz and The Tantrums, Colbie Caillat, and Jack Johnson. And very heavy rotation on anything Beatles, Motown, Frank, Ella, and 50s/60s pop and rock (Gene Pitney, Elvis, Buddy Holly, etc.). I like 70's, 80's, and 90's music too. Most of the music I listen to came out before I was ever born. I think I have close to 100 channels on Slacker...I've lost count LOL.

My signature speaks for itself; I like some music from the '60s, '70s, and a bit of the '80s. If it's from the 80's and is now played on an "oldies" station, I might enjoy listening to it, although I don't listen to heavy metal.....

I also enjoy the older stuff by The Cars - except for Drive. As long as it's sung by Ric Ocasek, it gets the green light. Though Drive, it was one song where Ric Ocasek was not the lead vocalist - the late Benjamin Orr was, and it's a red light song to me. Plus, good news for Cars fans - they've reunited and are releasing thier first album of new material in 24 years in May.

LOVE all kinds of rock, including classic rock. I'm a pretty huge metalhead, too.

I read this thread and was amazed that the best progressive rock band hasn't been mentioned. R U S H has been tearing it up since 1968 and are still going strong. I am seeing them in concert in Detroit. The second leg of the Time Machine Tour. As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records.[4] Rush's sales statistics place them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band.[5] Rush also ranks 79th in U.S. album sales with 25 million units.[6] Although total worldwide album sales are not calculated by any single entity, as of 2004 several industry sources estimated Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units.

    Anyone agree??

I have been putting some new posts on my blog. Classic Rock is great. I didn't even know that The Cars are coming out with a new album. I can't wait to hear it. i hope it sounds as good as the stuff they put out in the 70's and 80's or even better. Not only do i have new posts but I have a few places where you can go and buy some music. What good is having a classic rock blog if you can't not only read posts but browse or shop for some great music. I just want to be able to provide many things for my readers. If there is something that isn't on there that you'd like to see let me know. If i knew how to program and create games I'd have a classic rock trivia game on my blog.

I agree that Rush was a great band, and they're from Canada. Geddy Lee's voice was remarkable, and I believe only 2 of the band's songs made the U.S. Top 40 - they were 1977's Closer To The Heart and 1982's New World Man. I'm really surprised New World Man entered the U.S. Top 40, given the band's sound that did not match any of the American stuff during that year.

Rush is probably a forgotten Canadian band to many Americans, and that could be due to their lack of top 40 appearances. In terms of US top 40 frequency, it was no match to popular Canadian acts such as Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, or Avril Lavigne. A lot of Rush's stuff I enjoy didn't even make the US top 40. Those songs include Limelight, Free Will, The Spirit of Radio, Time Stand Still, Lock And Key, Fly By Night, Show Don't Tell, and Roll The Bones. If they are still recording new stuff, it's nothing compared to their older stuff, IMO.

And btw, Geddy Lee (the lead singer of Rush) sang backup on Bob and Doug MacKenzie's song Take Off from back in 1982. And Bob and Doug MacKenzie were known from their infamous sketches on the Canadian comedy series SCTV.
