GSN's HIGH STAKES POKER ("HSP") features the top poker professionals and personalities putting up $100,000 or more of their own money in the only "cash game" of no-limit Texas Hold 'em on television.
In every season of HSP the money on the table continued to increase including over $5 million on season four, which was highlighted by the first ever $500,000 minimum buy-in. The first season featured a pot of over $350,000. The second season topped it when Gus Hansen claimed a pot of over $500,000 and the fourth season featured a record pot of over $1 million.
Unlike the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker which are tournaments, in cash games the real value of the chips on the table are at stake in each hand. Participants can play as long as they have cash or chips and can add more money or decide to walk away with their winnings at any time. There are no chip leaders here. HSP provides a fresh look at the purest sense of poker and will give poker enthusiasts a truer take as to how to improve their skills at their own cash games.
The best of the best of the poker world play HSP. The veterans who have played multiple seasons include: Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Sammy Farha, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Jennifer Harman, Phil Hellmuth, Barry Greenstein, Todd Brunson, Phil Laak, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Patrik Antonius, Eric Lindgren, Brad Booth, Daniel Alaei, Ted Forest, Shawn Sheikhan, David Benyamine and 2006 WSOP champion Jamie Gold. In addition, other players who have appeared are Phil Ivey, Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss, Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte, internet player Brian "SBrugby" Townsend, Chris Ferguson, John D'Agostino, David Williams, Brian Brandon, Brandon Adams, Paul Wasicka and many more.
The popular duo of Gabe Kaplan and AJ Benza call the action on HSP. Kaplan made a surprise appearance in HSP III and was actually able to come away from the game a winner.
HSP features Executive Producer Henry Orenstein's in-table cameras that paved the way for the explosion of poker's popularity on television. With the use of these cameras, viewers will be able to play along and decide whether they agree with the player's decisions to bet, bluff or fold.
Orenstein serves as the Executive Producer of HSP IV with HSOR, L.L.C. Mori Eskandani, POKER PROductions, and Eric Drache, Icare Poker Consulting, serve as Executive Consultants. Phil Smith, Echo Entertainment, is the producer of HSP IV.
